Very funny slightly surreal sitcom

From the team that gave us Fr. Ted the IT crowd is a very funny comedy series.
Based around 2 computer nerds and their mismatched supervisor who make up the IT department of a large company. Like Fr. Ted the series is set up like a normal sitcom but many of the situations are slightly surreal. The acting from the three leads and the supporting cast is spot on.
Perhaps the plots get slightly over complicated in the third series but you'll get plenty of belly laughs from these programmes.

Graham Linehan surely must be one of the most talented comedy writer/directors of recent years. Father Ted, Black Boooks and then this - top quality stuff and good enough to keep you crying with laughter.

I can remember that the first series got a rather tentative write up when it was first aired, and in an interview on the 3rd DVD Linehan even admits that the 1st series didn't quite hit the mark. I can't see it myself - the 1st series is as funny as its successors and benefits from a fair degree of freshness - it's hard to find any reason to criticise it. Perhaps the rather conventional sitcom settings that Linehan produces in his comedy might seem rather unadventurous to the more demanding audience members, but the writing is what makes this so special. Linehan also seems to have a knack of bringing high quality performers into his productions and O'Dowd, Ayoade and Parkinson work wonderfully together. They are well supported by a number of other actors, including Noel Fielding who plays the gloomy goth Richmond and Chris Morris and Matt Berry who play the trio's successive (and appalingly overbearing) bosses.

There are a few extras, including outtakes, deleted scenes, set tours and the like and the Ken Korda (Adam Buxton) documentary on the first disc had me aching with laughter. There is of course a fourth series and all four are available as a boxset so I can't see why you would want to buy this particular edition.

This stuff just doesn't get old.

You won't be buying this unless you have dipped your toes into the series before so pointless reviewing the episodes.

There was a fourth series but shown so erratically on Four that it was hardly worth it. This is the core three series that we all love and remember.

One word on presentation - each DVD for each series contains a really good outtakes section, but the title screens are based on old games. You can spend a few minutes just watching what happens in the titles!

I can never use the mens toilet at work (which also doubles as the Disabled toilet) without remembering the first episode of series two where Roy chances using the Disabled toilet at the theate and accidentally pulls the emergency cord instead of the flush.................

Classic comedy and vastly under rated.

I love The IT Crowd and so decided to order the series 1 - 3 boxset. Arrived in great time and I was watching in no time. The discs are unmarked and in really good condition and work well in all devices. Sad to see no more is being done but ah well, it was a good show whilst it lasted but as they say "leave them wanting more" which is truly the case. You do have to have a particular sense of humour to like this show but if you do, you will find it brilliant. British comedy wins once again.

This is another display of comedy unlike other shows. It's got the feel of Black Books combined with the nerdy and geeky ways of an IT department with a department manager that knows nothing about computers and a general manager that's insane!

I defy anyone not to laugh at the wheelchair scene, or marvel at the genius of the "April" episode.

If this show has a flaw it's that there were so few episodes. If you're a fan of Graham Linehan's Black Books, then you'll love this series. Buy it. It'll make you happy.

Great stuff. Re-watching this series with our two sons (13 and 10) who have not seen it before. They are now officially addicted and every conversation ends up with some Moss reference in it. It is slightly grown up for our 10 year old so you may want to check websites with parental advisory if you are planning to show it to your kids. We are quite relaxed about that sort of thing.

I seriously can't remember the last time I laughed so much with a sitcom; i's completely hilarious and just want us all wishing for more;

Completed with very geeky menus and very interesting extras where you can find hidden games and easter-eggs, this is not only a sitcom that pretty much everybody will enjoy but the computer-fanatics will have something to relate to (not mentioning all the jokes only us, the supposed geeks and nerds) will laugh about while will others might be wondering why did that made us chuckle...

oh! by the way, they setup us the bomb: make your time!
