OMG!!! HOW COULD IT END LIKE THAT?????????
*cough* This is the second book I've read with settings in the area of the Middle East (first one was Kite Runner) and this was really interesting! It's two people with their own rich problems, expectations and set responsibilities to uphold the family honor. Doing what you're told vs doing what's best for yourself. Their love was intriguing for me, especially when they didn't even really talk until well after a few chapters. The story built them up for me, showing me their worlds while teasing me with their glances of happening to be in the same place (I know it was you Fate) and- geez, just wow!
I fell in love with this because I have a soft spot for when it comes to volunteering, and El goes to help the Syrian refugees, a serious problem that I've all but heard about on the news this past year. It gave me a bit of guilty pleasure to see her do something for the kids who suffer through war and death. I fell harder and faster with every class she had with the little ones. Add that to her attraction to Raj? *whistles*
Their meeting was a bit fast for me, but I could understand why Raj would feel the way he did, especially after all the coincidences they'd had before finally meeting in Jordan. I love fated love. *sighs* Their relationship was fun and exciting with the secrecy and intensity. It was funny to see how much some of El's cursing aggravated him haha. I also loved her host family! Won't say much about it for spoilers sake, but I LOVED the sense of their culture I got from this, and the clear sense that they're good people. Loved the emphasis on there being good people no matter the race/belief/religion/status, btw.Read more ›
The pull of these characters is completely captivating. Their voices screaming to be heard. The twists adding spice, laughter, & grief. An exciting blend of drama, action, romance, traitors vs. loyalty, responsibility vs. desire, royalty vs. commoners, star crossed lovers, & so much more! What would you do when the expectations set upon you are so far from your hearts desire(s)?
Then there's that ending ... dangling us over a cliff then plummeting to its depths at rocket speed. Ughhh!!! I need to see how Raj & El's story will end NOW!
*This story is for mature audiences due to sexual situations & language*
Oh my God!!! This book is amazing!! So full detail!! It sucks you in and you find yourself reading it on and on....
You'll want to lock the world out, switch all phones and spend a few hours in the world of Rajaa and Ella in the Middle East. The flow is so fluent, you don't notice how many pages you have to get through to reach the end.
I can't wait for part two...
I received an ARC in exchange for a honest review.
