Update: it gets worse. Why are we constantly referring to one of the bad guys as Dominic Dixon, always the full name, complete with awful dialect speech every time he talks? How can the reveal of a big bad make this little sense?
Knight has a good narrative style and builds a sweeping story-line taking the five members of the team, and Prof. Fathom himself, to different parts of the world to gather the clues and puzzle pieces to unravel the mystery at the heart of the story. The boys seem to be able to get themselves out of some situations that might not be truly believable and without sustained injuries, however, I found the stories adventurous and interest holding as a James Bond adventure.
For the gay reader, Knight has written an intriguing team of five young gay men, put together by his gay Professor Fathom. Together they take-on grand quests to find objects of historical significants to both the gay and straight community. Knight interjects sexual encounters in a relatively even-handed manner and he is not excessive with it as some M/M novels and romances can sometimes be. Other readers may find the sex a detractor from the story but I don't feel that it should be so for the open-minded reader, any more then James Bond bedding several 'beauties' during the course of an adventure.
The subject of the search, The Cross of Sins (naked crucifix), might be hard for the devout catholic or strongly religious reader to deal with but herein lies part of the battle the boys must wage through to save the artifact from destruction.
I recommend the book openly for middle-aged and older readers.
If you like tons of action, and I do mean ACTION in every sense of the word, then this is the book for you! I loved the way Geoffery Knight described the scenes and made you feel as if you were there. Damn do I wish I were there in more than one scene!
I've read hundreds of books where the author touches on same sex scenes, but there's always a female involved. This book didn't have that aspect. The great thing though, it's the story that rocks! All the guys have a specialty background. The plot is awesome! The dangers are deadly and filled with excitement.
I highly recommend this book for people who want substance to go with the sex scenes. I have already added Geoffery Knight to my author's to watch for!
The Cross of Sins (Fathom's Five, Vol. 1) takes you on a wild ride with over the top, death defying antics and characters that read like James Bond, Macguyver and the male version of Charlie's Angels all rolled into one. It's campy. It's smart. It's sexy.
There's no HEA. There's not even a HFN. What Geoffrey Knight leaves you with (and what I am more than happy to accept), is the promise of more to come - and I mean that in every sense of the word.
Join the party - you won't regret it!
