This is a well balanced study of the times and motivation of the major generals who were it seems given an almost impossible task and inadequate resources. A carefully woven narrative and a very satisfying read

Format: Paperback
An interesting read and very useful to students studying this period.
Durston presents this book well with many great sources and it is not a difficult read.
A good job done, considering the obscurity of the subject.
