The patterns are mainly for women but there are a couple for men and some for children. There are also a couple of jacket and coat patterns included. The beauty of Sylia Cosh's patterns are that they are easily adapted for smaller or larger sizes, than those given, and for different colour combinatations. How to addapt patterns is clearly explained. The picture on the front is just one adaptation of her 'basic sweater' pattern; this pattern is excellent for a beginner and looks great in a single colour.
The techniques required become more complex as you go through the book but all techniques are clearly explained and illustrated at the front of the book. If you are used to UK terminology for crochet then you might want to get a conversion table for the US terms used in this book [just put 'crochet conversion table' into a Google search] but this is not essential since the terms used are illustrated as stitch instructions. The terms used for the suggested yarns are also US terms but any good wool supplier will be able to advise you on the equivalent UK yarn. There are full size photos of the yarns used so choosing an equivalent is easy anyway.
For a set of good, usable crochet patterns this book is highly recommended.
other patterns are timeless.
Glad I bought this for my collection as it has
some useful reference material.
