Review

"In Crevice, Janice Boekhoff weaves an intriguing and modern tale around the legend of the Lost Dutchman Mine. This debut novel has adventure, romance, and an insightful spiritual thread that readers will enjoy."-Marissa Shrock, author of The First Principle and The Liberation "Vivid geological details and over a hundred-year-old legacy of heartache tie together two wounded souls on a rescue mission through the treacherous beauty of the Arizona desert. A scavenger hunt of clues leads the unlikely pair on a journey of faith, forgiveness, and love all infinitely more valuable than the fabled gold mine they seek. Refreshingly original, Boekhoff's treasure hunt of legends and intrigue will leave you tantalizingly infected with gold fever! An adventure not to be missed!"-Amy Leigh Simpson, author of the Girl Next Door Series "Get ready for an emotional, action-packed adventure through the Arizona desert. Part rescue mission, part treasure hunt, Crevice weaves local legend with modern day greed in this story of forgiveness and redemption. Boekhoff keeps the tension high until the nail-biting ending. A stunning debut!"-Jill Kemerer, author of Her Small-Town Romance and Unexpected Family "Mystery, adventure, and suspense all wrapped up into one! Fans of suspense will love this fresh, new voice in Christian fiction!"-Katie Ganshert, award-winning author of The Art of Losing Yourself

About the Author

Janice Boekhoff is a former Research Geologist who pours her love of science and the outdoors into her suspense novels. One of her favorite things to do, other than write, is to research the settings for her novels. Whether climbing Mount Rainier in Washington State, hiking in the Superstition Mountains of Arizona or pushing through the cloud forests of Costa Rica, she strives to bring realistic details to her writing. Photo of me at Mt. Rainier As a teenager, she discovered Stephen King novels, the kick-start for her love of suspense. She still reads all types of suspense and has cultivated an unnaturally close relationship with her Kindle, bordering on obsession. In fact, her husband calls it her security blanket. When she's not writing, she can be found sipping on a peppermint mocha, lounging in front of the TV watching episodes of Castle, or reading a science magazine to find the latest creative word scientists have made up (not much suspense there, but seriously, scientists are more creative than most people give them credit for). Janice is a three-time finalist in the American Christian Fiction Writers Genesis Contest. She writes from Iowa (not to be mistaken for Idaho), where she lives with her amazing husband and her three feisty, sports-addicted kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Janice Boekhoff beautifully succeeds in a difficult genre 25 Aug. 2016
By Anthony Flacco - Published on Amazon.com

Janice Boekhoff has succeeded where many Christian authors have difficulty, and that is in telling a secular story about the lust for gold and the historical Lost Dutchman's Mine, but as seen through the lens of a believer. The taut story and suspenseful plotting play out with as much action as any tale of adventure and the dangers of greed, but the sense of being God's children struggling to do the right thing in a murky world of temptations and deception is something that I believe will be familiar to any person of faith. Protagonist Elery Hearst has the tough job of running a failing gold mine and is quickly pulled into the age-old hunt for the Lost Dutchman, where she is inundated by the passions of criminal elements seeking the gold. Her bravery is so convincing and her attempts to do right in an atmosphere of evil are so familiar to anyone who openly struggles with good and evil in their lives that I believe readers will be engaged throughout this book, as I was. The love story is gently told and satisfying in its conclusion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book! 17 Feb. 2017

I love the west and reading about gold mines. In younger years my husband and I traveled all around the west looking at old mines and panning for gold. He was intrigued with really finding some. Oh well found a little ..just a few dollars worth but what we did find really was the beauty God created. I live in Wyoming now. He is gone. But he would have liked it here and would still be looking for that gold. I thought the book was wonderful and spent most of last night reading! It was very hard to put down. Thank you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book! 30 Aug. 2016

I really loved this book as I have always been fascinated by the legend of the Lost Dutchman Goldmine. I live in Arizona 6 months out of the year and spend a good dealt of time in the desert so I felt as though I was right there with them. I do not usually read books with a Christian theme, but I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading more books from Author Boekhoff. The book was full of twists, turns and surprises and it was very hard to put down.

This novel was recommended by a former high school classmate on social media and who said he was really enjoying reading it. So I thought I would give it a chance and was pleased with the writing style and story line. It kept my interest and I loved the links to history. As a Christian, it was refreshing to read a novel that included some nuggets of faith - just enough without being overdone. Very good first novel. I will buy more by Ms. Boekhoff. Thank you.
5.0 out of 5 stars Riveting Read! 24 Sept. 2016

Crevice is a riveting, action-packed story filled with surprising twists and compelling characters. The protagonist, Elery Hearst, is very relatable. Throughout the book she struggles to make peace with the past. How can God possibly forgive her when she can't even forgive herself? Christian or not, how many times do people view sin and forgiveness that way? The plot is entertaining, engaging, and refreshing. The historical details about Jacob Waltz brings fresh insight to the legends of the Lost Dutchman Mine. It's a book you don't want to put down as the characters battle evil, fall in love, and discover the beauty of God's magnificent plan for each of their lives.
