The one thing to be aware of with this particular casserole is that it comes from the "cocotte bis" range. This bistro range of casseroles is not going to be big enough to cook meals for a family of six. It is of course 22cm in diameter, but only approximately 8cm deep. The stated capacity of this casserole is 2.6 litres. This is compared to 8.4 litres for the full size 30cm casserole I also have, so be aware of this size limitation before buying!
I have 4 Le Creuset casseroles and this is the most shallow. They are pawning off shallow "bistro bis" casseroles as proper 22cm, normal height casseroles. However, this item does not exist on the Le Creuset UK Ltd. website. There are standard height casseroles as well as oval and shallow. This is NONE of those. They don't even make a 22cm in oval or shallow. So, by deduction, it would have to be the standard casserole. However, it isn't. It's much shallower and the shape is different. I've never heard of the "bistro bis" range and a Google search yields almost no results. Not good!
It's false advertising and should not be allowed. The dimensions should be listed clearly on the description with an explanation that this is a shallower version of their normal casserole. Telling us it's a "more convenient size" as it does in the description is not enough. The 22cm Le Creuset sold by Le Creuset on Amazon states the dimensions clearly. Why not the products Le Creuset UK Ltd. sells??
My gut tells me this is something Le Creuset made at one point and does not make and probably did not sell many judging by the lack of Google images. This model belongs in the discount stores and outlets, not on Amazon masquerading as a proper 22cm Le Creuset casserole.
I welcome the seller's explanation though as I don't have one. This is going back to Amazon for a refund so I can buy the proper 22cm in the proper height.
This Casserole dish was half price at £70 and represents much more realistic price for this item ~ Hence the 5 stars
1. they are non-stick, and unlike those cheap (or expensive!) Teflon lined pans, they won't shed any grey lining into your food. Ever. Teflon lining is, according to the manufacturers, "not harmful to your health, if ingested", but do you really want to be eating that?
2. although Le Creuset is more expensive than other similar cast iron pots, I strongly feel that it is not just the brand name, the pots I have are perfect in their finish, I handled the cheaper pans when thinking about whether it was worth spending more money, they ALL had minor imperfections in the glaze, or rougher edges, that was in several shops, different brands.
If you look after the pan by soaking/ handwash (don't stick it in the dishwasher!), then it should last many years. My original pan is 11 years old, still great to cook with, and much loved.
This is slightly smaller than I expected but this is due to me not looking at the dimensions properly. None the less, the product is brilliant. One of the best things about buying Le Creuset products is that they last for so long!
This pot is brilliant for cooking up a casserole, curry, chilli and anything that will fit. One of the best things about dishes like this is that you can cook things on the hob in them and then transfer them to the oven for finishing.
To sum up: Quality that will last!
This is an investment and they are not cheap but you will keep them for them for a long time, they rarely break or become damaged and are a brilliant addition to any kitchen.
