4.0 out of 5 stars Western history abounds 3 Jan. 2015

Another of the Miller revelations about how the Creed family grew, this story begins in 1910 when Juliana Mitchell, a teacher of a school for Indians, loses her job and the school, and hasn't a place to go when her older brother refuses to give her even a portion of her inheritance. Lincoln Creed, widowed father of irrepressible Gracie, takes them home to his ranch to get them out of the snow and cold, and there begins an unlikely, but inevitable, attraction between them.

Given the times, when Gracie finds her in Lincoln's bed, though they have only slept there, not SLEPT there, the only way to make things right is for Juliana to accept Lincoln's previous offer to marry her, and thus solve his problem of finding a governess or a housekeeper of, even a wife.

But will Lincoln protect her four Indian charges from the Indian Affairs representative who intends to take them back? And over Christmas, too?
4.0 out of 5 stars Filled with Goodness and Joy 1 Sept. 2012

There are six books in this series, this one was written fourth but is actually a prequel to the remainder of the series. It is a warm hearted story of tolerance, acceptance and love. It glows with the kindness of Christmas spirit that we all wish for at the holidays and hope will extend through the New Year and beyond. Ms Miller has written many romantic novels set in the western states of the USA, this one is a lovely Chrismas gift to all of her many fans. Well written, characters personalities well drawn and time and place brought to life; a recommendation from me if you are looking for a delightful book to put you in the Christmas mood.
4.0 out of 5 stars trying to survive the results of bigoted people can be almost impossible 18 Dec. 2014

This was a story that featured both the hatred of bigots and the generous love of others. Women had no rights to protect themselves from those in charge of their finances. It was nice to see how love and children can bring everyone together. A very good book to read till the end.
