Touch the Sound of Perfection

The ZEN X-Fi gave you the sound of perfection. Now we’ve gone ahead and made it better. No buttons involved, simply let your fingers work their magic across the 3" TFT LCD screen and access all the player's features instantly.

ZEN Xi-Fi2 now allows you to experience the sound of perfection even with your stored movies and FM radio - with X-Fi technology that restores audio to even higher levels of clarity than before. Immerse yourself in a natural listening experience as the state-of-the-art X-Fi technology intelligently moves the earphone stereo source away from your ears, simulating an audio experience from a pair of high-end stereo speakers.

The latest player from Creative is a step up from its predecessor, the popular ZEN X-Fi. Besides a bigger screen size, the ZEN X-Fi2 supports multiple audio formats including the much desired Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC), which delivers audio without compromising on its original quality as well as iTunes Plus (unprotected AAC format), which compresses audio data much more efficiently than older formats. Indulge in true pristine audio where you hear your music played the way it was meant to be heard.

The ZEN X-Fi2 also supports RSS feeds offline, and video out where you can share your videos and photos on your TV. If you need more than 8GB of internal memory, the ZEN X-Fi2 also comes in 16GB and 32GB versions..

Take in rich detail from nifty guitar strumming and crisp cymbal clashes and complete the whole experience with the bundled EP-630 in-ear earphones. These premium earphones are designed to block out external noise and even come with three different sizes of ear tips to offer you the most optimum comfort.

Touch and Go

The ZEN X-Fi2 is the first touchscreen digital media player from Creative. You can navigate with ease on the intuitive 3" TFT LCD touchscreen. There are no tricky buttons involved, just one touch is all you need to access all the media content from the home screen. One tap of the finger will take you through to your, music, movies, photos, radio, and many more features. It also makes controlling your music or movies easier. Once you have opened the movie application, for example, the controls for it appear on the touchscreen. So it is even easier than previous X-Fi players to play, pause, skip or control the volume. The screen has 262,000 colours and a 400 x 240 pixel resolution making it perfect not just for touchscreen navigation, but also for watching movies or viewing photos.

Pump It Up with X-Fi Technology

ZEN X-Fi2 now brings the power of X-Fi to bear on more types of entertainment! Building on the ZEN X-Fi, ZEN X-Fi2 now allows you to experience the sound of perfection even with your stored movies and FM Radio -- with X-Fi technology that restores audio to even higher levels of clarity than before. The adjustable X-Fi Crystalizer allows you to experience the very essence of music perfection as it intelligently restores detail lost during file compression with just one touch. Also included is the X-Fi Expand technology, which brings the most acoustically natural sound staging in headphone audio available from a media player. X-Fi Expand creates more depth to your music by moving the conventional left/right stereo source away from your ears. As a result you will feel as if you were listening to your music from a pair of high end speakers.

Supports Multiple Audio Formats

There are no worries about having a library of audio files in different formats, as the ZEN X-Fi2 supports mulitple audio formats. Relax and listen to your MP3, WMA, AAC, Audible4 and FLAC files with ease. Pre-loaded into the ZEN X-Fi2 is the Creative Centrale software which makes it easier to rip, transfer and manage your media content. If you prefer, you can even transfer files by simply dragging and dropping them. The 8GB ZEN X-Fi2 can store 2000 MP3 files (approximately 4 minutes per song at 128kbps), but if you need more internal memory the ZEN X-Fi2 also comes in 16GB and 32GB versions.

Video Out in X-Fi

Watch movies or view photos with your family and friends on your TV screen by connecting the ZEN X-Fi2 with an A/V cable (A/V cable sold separately). You can connect the cable using the composite connectors on your TV (round yellow jack, and the round red jack) making it quick and easy to plug in and start enjoying. You will be able to watch your movies with X-Fi sound, or listen to the backing music you have chosen for your slide show.

Expandable Memory to Provide More Media Content

In a dilemma over what songs or movies to upload to your player? Limited media capacity is no longer a problem, for the ZEN X-Fi2 comes with a built-in micro SD card slot which enables you access more music, photos and videos in your memory card. You can also transfer files easily to enjoy more media content in your player.

RSS Feeds Download Supported

RSS feeds are downloaded in entirety, including photos (not just article headlines with a few lines of text). Just sync via the USB connection and download RSS feeds from your computer and read them later on your ZEN X-Fi2 on-the-go.

This is a slim and stylish looking MP3 player. Its fabulously lightweight, always a big plus as i tend to keep it in my jeans pocket. The player can be customised with the available themes or your own picture. Not having had a touchscreen to this degree before i was a bit worried but i find it responsive and easy to use. In fact i love it.

The sound quality, as with all creative zens is superb and its much easier to pick out the tracks and albums i want to hear than the old micro zen i had, where i was forever hitting the track above or below what i wanted or had to keep chasing them thru the menu. This player has a touch test, which makes hitting the tracks you want simple.

The lack of a dedicated volume buttom seems to be an issue for some people but does not cause me any problems. A quick way to get the volume slider up is to hold the one button on the front of the player down and the volume will appear.

Video clips look great, clear and bright with great color as do any photos.

A big plus for me is the length of the battery life before you have to recharge, my last one lasted about 5 hours, this does seem to go on for the 20 or very close to that one way or the other. Mine was flashing as low the other day so i plugged it in for 4 - 5 mins as i wanted to rush off to the shops with it and it was still happily going 2 hours later.

It took me a long time to pick and decide on which player i was going to buy and i am so glad i picked this one. No regrets at all. If i was to lose it i would rebuy the exact same one.

I bought the Zen X-Fi2 8GB back in November 2009, I thought I'd write a review because I know every in and out of the product and have spent hundreds of hours listening through it.

MUSIC: The sound is amazing, nowadays it depends on good headphones/earphones but I've tried my earphones in iPods and its not the same. The actual 'X-Fi' feature doesn't really do much, its just a gimmick in my opinion, when you turn it on, the music just gets louder and the bass + treble are increased. Unfortunately, the interface for selecting music is bad, you cannot play music by artist, only by album. If you select artist it will just take you to there albums. Also, it didn't recognise the genre of my songs, if i selected a genre it would only bring up a few songs. For me, I just played ALL my songs in shuffle, so it didn't bother me too much. ¦ 4/5

VIDEO: I didn't watch many videos because on the 3" screen its not really worth it. Quality is good though, I would consider putting movies on it for a long flight. ¦ 3/5

TOUCHSCREEN: The touchscreen is nothing special, its a touch sensitive screen rather then a heat sensitive like iPod Touch. After a few weeks I realised that it was easiest to use the end of my nail to select things instead of my actual finger. As far as the actual screen goes, its very well lit and is very colourful. ¦ 3/5

BATTERY: This thing goes for ages, I charged it 1/2 times a week. When it says 'Battery Low' that means up to 2 hours left. ¦ 5/5

WEIGHT/SIZE: Its really lightweight and the size is a little small for my liking, especially with the poor touchscreen. ¦ 4/5

PRICE: When I bought it, it was £85 and considering its lasted over 2 years with no faults, its worth it.

I bought this with some trepidation after the adverse comments by reviewers regarding the touch screen.
Ignore them. If you use the tip of a fingernail, rather than the tip of a finger there is no problem whatsoever. The lack of a dedicated volume control is a minor annoyance, but that's all.
I have a Sony e-book reader whose touch screen is far worse than this yet reviewers seem happy with that. Makes you wonder what they expect for less than £100. Compare it to the price of an iPod!
Great piece of kit

I purchased this to replace my Zen W after the hard disk died. I knew it was smaller then the W but it is a lot lighter with a very cheep feel to it. The touch screen does not seem to be that responsive and takes a lot to get to where you want.

Oh, the older version comes with a charger, manual and app CD. This the app is on the device and the manual downloadable; it is "ZEN X-Fi2 Userguide English.chm" so you need a windows system to read it. The software is called "Creative Centrale", this is pants. You have to read all of your files to load into centrale, this takes ages and hangs all the time, it completed once and 1/3 of my albums were showing up as unknown items. The all have their tags (v3.2) but don't show up, but when you drag and drop the same "unknown" files onto the device the X-Fi2 shows all the track info...

Also it says "Expandable capacity via mirco SD card slot", this is not true, it does not expand the 8GB, it has to be used to copy the files to the player.

I'm a dyed in the wool Zen fan and bought this to replace my original 4GB Zen which had come to the end of it's life, but have since regretted doing so. Up front I have to admit that my primary usage of my old Zen player was as an MP3 player while shopping, walking and hiking, and as such it was located in my pocket and navigated with one hand, while this new player is my first encounter with touchscreen beyond the screen on a graphics tablet at work.
With that said, the touchscreen sensitivity on this - the only means of navigating the content - is (even after multiple calibration attempts) clumsy and unresponsive with the tiny volume bar being a particular niggle. Sometimes icons will light up after you touch them yet the player does nothing, so you have to stab the screen harder and harder until it actually responds. The player icons are poorly placed along a thin bar on the bottom of the screen which - if you keep the player in your pocket while using it - you obviously can't see and so must pull the player out and struggle with the unresponsive controls in public, which may be concern if you're in a particuar locale and don't want to be flashing something expensive-looking, or even if it's just raining. Given the shape of the player, you must also use the controls with both hands, as (assuming you are right handed) if you try to use it single-handed the controls will be located on the far side of the player away from your thumb, with the top/left buttons being inaccessible unless you have Roswell Alien-type fingers, and even then, given your thumb is reaching across the screen you'll be touching such a large area of screen that the chances of the player not registering your pressing the buttons is quite high.
