From the moment I played some music through the Series 2 T40, I was amazed at the difference in aural quality. They are in a different league to the Series 1s. The highs are far more defined and stand out in a nice crisp way against the rest of the sound. Mix this with a good (but not too powerful) bass and the result is a lovely rounded sound. I am using these as PC speakers so I’m not looking for ‘Abbey Road quality’, just something that gives a nice sound and allows me to listen to music at a reasonable quality. These Creative Speakers are well made and solid, as all Creative products seem to be. Although there are far cheaper alternatives out there, I am so glad I bought these. They sound great!
I really like that you can have two different inputs running simultaneously (one from the regular cable and one from the mic jack on the front), I've had other speakers that muted the main input if the mic jack was used.
The only thing I don't like about them is that they automatically turn off after 15 mins of no sound being played. I recall reading that this was something to do with an EU regulation but I find this very annoying and from some googling only Creative speakers seem to have people complaining about this. The speakers are quite slow to "wake up" after being put on standby.
Well, these fit the bill perfectly. They're *just* good enough for my particular needs.
The frequency balance is a bit odd, but I get where they're coming from: their default is meant for fairly quiet listening, where the human ear is less sensitive to bass and (to a smaller extent) treble. So, if you're listening to them quietly, I'd say leave the bass at 12 o'clock and move the treble just a tad to the right. If, however, you turn them up (to 85db or more), the bass far too boosted. In those circumstances I strongly recommend you turn the bass to 10 o'clock, or even 9. Otherwise the sound becomes very muddy, boomy and inaccurate. Also, the strain on the tiny speakers mucks up the crucial mids.
One last thing: if they're beside your monitor, use the stands. They help with the bass boom and also tilt the tweeters towards your ears.
My scepticism vanished immediately as it became clear very quickly that no quality had been lost and the speakers look great and stylish on the desk. I also love the adjustment dials on the front and the easy access to plug in headphones or aux in.
I may add that I'm not using these for professional purposes, just playing music and games so I guess some people may notice a bigger difference with the lack of separate sub-woofer. But for me, they are perfect.
I've gone through over a dozen different laptop speaker sets in the last 5 years as I have a 2008 Acer Trevelmate, running windows XP, and they are not built for sound. Every set of speakers has been disappointing as, at best, they only double the volume. Many kind people have given me their old sets too. Eventually I just got fed up and did an extensive product search and review search for LOUD laptop speakers so I can actually hear what people are saying on my on line courses videos.
Maybe this was a total overkill, LOL, a bit of an over reaction born of my frustration, but I didn't want to mess around and waste time anymore. I wanted speakers guaranteed to actually make things as loud as I need them to be for what I'm listening or watching. I bought these, and OMG I got much, much more than I bargained for. The sound is not just very loud (I'm using them at 1/3 of their volume ability), but they produce fantastic quality music.
My son, who is a bit of a geek and tech person was astonished at the fantastic quality and richness of sound. He couldn't believe that a pair of laptop speakers could actually achieve that. He had been on at me for 3 years to buy a proper set of kit with sub woofer, tweeter and all that stuff, but I wanted something uncomplicated and small enough to have on the table next to my lap top and not lots of little fiddly bits and pieces and wires everywhere. Just 2 speakers, simple, that's it, that's what I wanted. Well, I've got the whole lot, all of it, and in just 2 speakers!
I'm delighted. They are amazing. Thank you
These speakers are no different, well built, good looking and they sound tremendous, i'm no audiophile but they are loud, crisp and have deep bass tones.
I use them as computer and TV speakers and they do a great job.
My first pair I have had for about 7 years and they still sound as good as the day I got them, and they have survived many many a house party!
Don't be put off by the lack of subwoofer with these, they produce lovely bass levels from the built in woofers.
To top them off; they look smart too!
