Great sound, great price the upgrade from on-board sound from your mother board is incredible. Highly recommended.
I have had some surround sound headphones (Speedlink Medusa NX) for years now, I never used them because I didn't have the right sound card and as stereo headphones they were too big and not worth the bulk, so they were put away.
I recently found them, and looked at the price of a surround sound card. I saw this, it has the right outputs, a good price and Creative have a good reputation.
I put in into the PC audio slot, installed the software and it worked right after a reboot.
You get a control panel where you can set up for the sound source of your choice. Stereo, 5.1 surround and headphones. There is only one green output so you will need a splitter, to use more than one option.
Stereo for normal speakers (( you will need a splitter) monitor/external stereo speakers),.
5.1 for your surround sound system in my case headphones.
Headphones for your headphones
The sound through the headphones is amazing, it is worth the money for this improvement alone. I have yet to watch a film in surround sound and will add this detail later.
I used this card to replace an older Soundblaster Audigy. The install is fairly straightforward. As it's an internal card, you need to remove the outer case of your PC (and remember to turn it off!). Then locate a PCI-E slot on your motherboard, and gently push the tines on the soundcard into the slot until it clips into place. Then re-attach your PC case and turn it back on again.
Some (much) older motherboards may not have a PCI-E slot, so it's worth checking this before buying a card that requires PCI-E.
On restarting the PC, you're likely to need to install drivers and other software to enable the card to work effectively - these are all conveniently supplied on a disc that comes with the card. Slot it into your CD drive, and be prepared to click the `Next' button a lot. It's a bit of a tedious process, but quite straightforward.
The provided software is alright as well - the Creative mixing software is useful for touching speaker effect volumes, EAX and so on. It may not beat the level required for serious audiophiles, but if you're intending just to set-it-and-forget-it , then it's perfectly acceptable.
Once installed, the card is easy to connect to speakers; it has four outputs - three analogue and a digital out, and a Mic-In input jack. I wired it up to some 7.1 speakers for testing purposes. The sound produced was perfectly acceptable - clear when given either music or speech, pushing appropriate sound to each channel, and producing a decently deep bass when I changed the levels. The treble is a bit tinny, but it's decent enough, given this is an entry level card.
Overall then, an easy install, some decent software, and good quality (if not exceptional) sound; very good price-to-performance ratio if you're looking for an entry-level internal soundcard for your PC.
Needed support for 5.1 speakers, which the T1700 motherboard does not have.
The sound quality seems excellent, the installation was faultless (64bit Win7) and its control panel is good.
It outputs via a set of £60'ish "computer" 5.1 speakers.
(Incidentally, I am of the opinion that spending on anything more than a card like this, unless it is connected to proper Hi-Fi speakers, is a complete waste of money.)
After much fiddling and upgrading drivers, no difference.
So took the plunge and bought this card despite concerns about the usual bloatware included with Creative products.
Wow what a difference, much higher sound output, games sound so much better and a minimal software burden. Bargain!!
I have an Asus P8Z77-V motherboard which has always had a soundcard fault (intermittent mains buzz) and this has cleared it so I can now listen to music through my PC rather than a radio.
The configuration is simple but it doesn't prompt you to set it up. I changed the default and the sound improved.
Sound quality: I am only using cheapo PC speakers but the improvement over the M/boards inherent card is noticeable.
Only run it for a short time but is a clear improvement over the onboard sound seems stable and will update review if any issues arise.
