This sound card was fitted into my son's older Core Duo Windows 7 PC while his new i5 Windows 8 PC was under repair. He'd been used to using the external soundcard of a Creative X-Fi Surround Pro, which is significantly more expensive than this internal card. The Creative Blaster Audigy Fx 5.1 is very easy to fit, by the way, so don't let the need to remove your computer's outer case put you off. Just make sure you have it fully unplugged from the mains when you do it, and earth your body by grasping any part of the metal outer case frequently before touching the Creative card and inserting it into an available slot.

My son listens to a wide range of music including modern classical. For some reason the volume from the Creative X-Fi was too low on his older Win 7 PC, hence the decision to try out this new Sound Blaster card. Well, we were both astonished at its sound quality - truly. The Creative X-Fi rightly gets rave reviews (and it's easier to fit as it doesn't require you to remove the computer case) - those reviews are well deserved. That said, this less expensive card proved in many ways its equal. It sounds superb, has great clarity, good solid and controlled bass and, well, sounds altogether very lively and musical through his Creative 2.1 set up. There is no feedback popping or humming at all - just silence (as is to be expected). For the price, it's a snip. In my own PC I have the more expensive Asus Xonar DSK which is a rave-reviewed piece of kit. Well - this Audigy stands its ground next to that one, in my set up at any rate. Highly recommended - you will not be in any way disappointed and have that warm feeling that you've got high quality at a fair price.

Bought an Asus Xonar DGX before this but found I kept having to turn up my 2.1 speakers to get a decent output.
After much fiddling and upgrading drivers, no difference.
So took the plunge and bought this card despite concerns about the usual bloatware included with Creative products.
Wow what a difference, much higher sound output, games sound so much better and a minimal software burden. Bargain!!

This is a perfectly good internal soundcard, which fits a PCI-E slot in your PC, and supports 5.1-7.1 surround sound speakers.

I used this card to replace an older Soundblaster Audigy. The install is fairly straightforward. As it's an internal card, you need to remove the outer case of your PC (and remember to turn it off!). Then locate a PCI-E slot on your motherboard, and gently push the tines on the soundcard into the slot until it clips into place. Then re-attach your PC case and turn it back on again.

Some (much) older motherboards may not have a PCI-E slot, so it's worth checking this before buying a card that requires PCI-E.
On restarting the PC, you're likely to need to install drivers and other software to enable the card to work effectively - these are all conveniently supplied on a disc that comes with the card. Slot it into your CD drive, and be prepared to click the `Next' button a lot. It's a bit of a tedious process, but quite straightforward.

The provided software is alright as well - the Creative mixing software is useful for touching speaker effect volumes, EAX and so on. It may not beat the level required for serious audiophiles, but if you're intending just to set-it-and-forget-it , then it's perfectly acceptable.

Once installed, the card is easy to connect to speakers; it has four outputs - three analogue and a digital out, and a Mic-In input jack. I wired it up to some 7.1 speakers for testing purposes. The sound produced was perfectly acceptable - clear when given either music or speech, pushing appropriate sound to each channel, and producing a decently deep bass when I changed the levels. The treble is a bit tinny, but it's decent enough, given this is an entry level card.

Overall then, an easy install, some decent software, and good quality (if not exceptional) sound; very good price-to-performance ratio if you're looking for an entry-level internal soundcard for your PC.

Short review
Great sound, great price the upgrade from on-board sound from your mother board is incredible. Highly recommended.

I have had some surround sound headphones (Speedlink Medusa NX) for years now, I never used them because I didn't have the right sound card and as stereo headphones they were too big and not worth the bulk, so they were put away.

I recently found them, and looked at the price of a surround sound card. I saw this, it has the right outputs, a good price and Creative have a good reputation.
I put in into the PC audio slot, installed the software and it worked right after a reboot.
You get a control panel where you can set up for the sound source of your choice. Stereo, 5.1 surround and headphones. There is only one green output so you will need a splitter, to use more than one option.

Stereo for normal speakers (( you will need a splitter) monitor/external stereo speakers),.
5.1 for your surround sound system in my case headphones.
Headphones for your headphones
The sound through the headphones is amazing, it is worth the money for this improvement alone. I have yet to watch a film in surround sound and will add this detail later.
