Eagerly awaited, this album has disappointed me slightly. I purchased with confidence, without preview or review based upon owning - and absolutely loving - all the Pierces' previous albums.

For me, this album is missing the soulful .. kooky ... catchy (and often creepy!) songs which the regular listener will have come to expect from the Pierces - the mood feels slightly more 'strident' and upbeat but the songs are somewhat bland - perhaps a requirement of the record label?

The songs are pleasant enough to listen to, but are not 'stand-out' like previous albums. Don't expect the likes of 'Turn on Billie' or 'Lights On' with this. Check out soulmoxie's review, which explains a lot about the mood of this album. She is also absolutely correct that the one aspect which is always above reproach is the singing itself. Only siblings can sing in such perfectly-pitched harmony, and the Pierces sound even better live.

I wish that I had sampled the songs on this album before purchasing - because I feel that then I would may not have proceeded to purchase - at least not the entire album. Thirteen tales of love and revenge' remains for me far and away their best album.

'Try before you buy' is my best advice with this one. I am interested to see what other reviewers make of it.

This is a letdown from You and I, which in turn is a letdown from Thirteen Tales, which is their best album. Belle Noir (see below) is dead on in her review of this product. Catherine is apparently in love, and has produced a bunch of very contented, gently rolling love songs to express her feelings. In fact, she monopolizes Creation from the writing standpoint, penning 11 out of the 16 tunes on the deluxe edition. So Allison only gets five, which I think is a damned shame. It is of course a vast generalization, but on the whole Allison is the darker and edgier of the two, & Cat the more sweet and settled. The title of one of Catherine's tracks, "Confidence in Love", just about pinpoints the mood of this album. The drama and intensity are missing - things you can find, for example on the first 6 or 7 tracks on You and I, the mature melancholy is missing ("Glorious" (the lyrics, not the music), "Space and Time", "I Put Your Records On"), and of course the wicked sense of fun & delight in virtually every track of Thirteen Tales is absolutely missing. What saves this album, as always, is the sisters' singing, the only thing that is beyond reproach. They've been singing together since they were little girls (check out the picture of them at around age 4 in the liner notes to their first disc - it is absolutely priceless), and it definitely shows. The material has gotten a little complacent as they forge on toward mass MOR acceptance, but there's no denying how marvelously their voices work together. So that's the saving grace here. But I don't particularly care for the direction their career seems to be going. Best tracks: for Catherine, the title track, which actually acknowledges things like growing old and the passing of time, and for Allison, "Elements", which is almost anthemic. But only 5 out of 16 songs, my god...

As previous reviewers have said, I'd not heard of The Pierces before Kings and then I saw them do it live on the TV. Hooked straight away. They have a haunting quality to their songwrting and singer that catchesyou on first or second play. I haven't heard previous albums but like every track

I love this album! Someone else said it wasn't as good as 'You and I' and that was my initial reaction when I played for the first time. It took me three plays through for it to really hook me, and now I think it's equally as brilliant. These ladies are top drawer singer songwriters.

Delivered with Amazon's usual speed and efficiency, this is a truly brilliant album!
The production is of fantastic quality, and every single track is a joy to behold. The Pierces have put together a very polished work of art to the highest standard, and built it around strong melodies.
I won't go on about how good The Pierces are - Just buy it - you will love it!

Ignore the nay-sayers, this is a quality album with great vocals, well-written songs and solid performances. Was every track instantly loved? No, one or two of them required a second play before they got me hooked, but now I'm playing the whole album as often as I can. The only negative thing I would say is that after buying the standard cd I learned about the 16 track deluxe edition, but that's a marketing thing. Looking forward to seeing them live in Birmingham this month.

I first stumbled on The Pierces back in June this year after hearing the first single "Kings" on the Paul Miller show on BBC local radio in the south one night! I instantly loved the song and had to find out more about them! I also rarely give albums 5 stars but this one deserves it!

Brilliant! This is an amazing album from start to finish it is a masterpiece! This is going to be a real classic one of those albums I will be playing time and time again! I like the fact as with there previous albums they have continued to change there sound! It's also refreshing to hear something that's not commercial or made to sound a certain way like most of the tripe currently filling the charts!

The whole album has a very magical/dreamy feel throughout! Brilliant thought provoking lyrics throughout! This album is a major step up from 2011 you and I. Catherine and Allison Pierce have for me two of the best female voices I've heard in music! Some of Catherine's vocals are quite simply stunning in places! The song creation for example! I love every single song which again is very rare for me to find albums like this!

Well done to Catherine and Allison on this five star work!

Edit 03.09.14

I've now had the album 3 full days now and I am totally addicted! The more I listen the more I want to listen again! It shows how talented Allison and Catherine are! With the fact they can change there voices from one song to the next! The more Times I listen to whole album I'm finding more deeper emotional depths with the superbly written lyrics! Just shows what can be done with two superbly harmonised voices! They also clearly display amazing musicianship! Once again I connect with there music on a different level! And they are masters of their craft!

This is my album of 2014! Oh and this album really comes alive on expensive earphones! Buy it! Best album this year by far!
