Product Description

Jason Statham reprises his role as hitman Chev Chelios in this high-octane action thriller sequel. Picking up immediately after Chelios hits the ground after falling out of the helicopter at the end of the first film, this instalment follows him as he is kidnapped by a gang of Chinese medics who steal his practically indestructible heart and replace it with a fake battery-powered one, which requires regular jolts of electricity to keep working.

When you watch a Neveldine and Taylor film, you're signing up for bloodshed, vicious violence, and offensive content mixed with some excellently timed and seriously dodgy off-colour humour.
This is all of the above.
After Jason Statham's relentlessly determined survivor (and professional hit-man) cockney Chev Chelois seemingly died at the end of Crank, this starts in typically absurd fashion, with him being scooped off the tarmac with a shovel no less (see what I mean about the humour?) and bundled into a van. Next thing we know he's surrounded by mysterious bad guys hoping to harvest bits of his anatomy and the madness starts from there.
As fans of the first film will know, these stories are all about perpetual motion - if Chelios stops for too long he'll die. This time it's electricity that's needed, which leads to several gruesome moments, and a fair few very funny ones too. It also means we get non-stop careening from action scene to action scene, with a great deal of swearing and extreme violence. Amy Adams is back as his tolerant, loyal and faintly slutty girlfriend in a great role, and is joined by some of the original cast in roles that are used well, as well as a host of new faces.
Some of the gags are extremely juvenile, but they work because the film wears its colours extremely prominently on its sleeve. Inspired by the style of computer shoot-em-ups, it'll appeal to the same age group and mindset, with gradually increasing levels of bad guys and frequent 'health regeneration' moments.
Statham is hilarious and has a ball as the foul-mouthed sociopathic killer, as he staggers around from gunfight to gunfight followed by a trail of psychotic hookers, bizarre friends and carnage.

Chev Chelios is in an unknown location, sedated, while various Chinese are harvesting his organs. His heart is gone, in an ice chest; a temporary battery powered one in its place.

Chev escapes, calls Doc Miles, who tells him there's only an hour's life in the artificial heart, and to keep it charged.

Chev needs to find his own heart and get to the Doc for a transplant.

He starts his time-limited pursuit of shadowy figures, and his heart........

If a film was ever an acquired taste, then this must be the definition. This film makes the first movie look as serious as The 400 Blows. It's as if Neveldine and Taylor went on a huge bender and in their deepest darkest hour, they came up with this, experiment.

To sum the film up would be extremely difficult, but if you were to imagine, Manga, Looney Tunes, and a little eighties Jackie Chan, you can only just scrape the edge on the bizarreness of what you will see.

But the film works, because you cannot do anything but just go with it. Like a roller coaster, its painful to begin with, but then you get the rush, and just go with it.

Statham is brilliant, and the rest of the characters are pure bonkers.

You'll either think this film is great, or you'll hate it.

One day all films will be made like this. Crank 2 is the imaginatively-titled sequel to Crank, following the exploits of seemingly-indestructible hitman, Chev Chelios, as he runs around L.A. murdering every hood and henchman he comes across (and he comes across quite a few).

I loved this film. It's completely stupid. But, at least it knows it is. If you ever saw Clive Owen in `Shoot `em Up' and thought that was ridiculously over the top, well... you haven't seen anything compared to a Crank film.

Jason Statham, as Chelious, has had his heart removed (just after he fell out of a helicopter over Los Angeles) and it's been replaced by an artificial one which needs charging every ten minutes or so. Therefore, as he runs around killing one thug after the next, he has to come up with all sorts of ingenious ways of recharging himself, such as placing his hands on high voltage cables and tazering himself.

That is just a taste of the silliness you will expect during Crank 2. If you think that sounds daft, steer well clear - that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Like I say, Crank 2 knows it's stupid and goes to great lengths to prove it to you. If you're unable to suspend your disbelief, then don't even bother watching this. I have read many a review referring to it as `utter rubbish.' And, they're right - it is rubbish, but it's not trying to be anything else.

It's grotesque, offensive, wall-to-wall daft, senseless rubbish and violence. And it's great.

Sense of humour a must when choosing to watch this.

Bring on Crank 3.

"Crank 2" picks up from the moment "Crank" finished and follows the same furious, crazy, violent, highly-charged pattern of nonsense as the first one. Imagine all the action scenes from a normal movie have been cut together, and all the scenes about plot or mystery have been left out. That's what "Crank 2" is like. Not a minute goes by without somebody being shot or stabbed. It's relentless, and that's really what it's all about.

As well as some more violent and ridiculous moments (as if the helicopter fight at the end of the first film wasn't enough), there are also some very tongue-in-cheek moments that give it a bit of an extra dimension. The surreal bit in which Chev and one of the baddies turn into Godzilla style giant monsters- brilliant. The bit in which one of the incidental characters from the first film re-appears on a psychiatrist's couch, good fun. It's slightly "Austin Powers"-like in the way it twists off and goes very silly in parts. Except of course the gun-fighting, brutal violence and regular nudity is not quite so "Austin Powers"-y.

A very very silly film, but if you want a violent action movie with a sense of humour, this is one of the best (but watch the first "Crank" first).
