The fabric is reasonably thin but it gives some protection from the wind, wipes clean quite well and dries very fast.
BUT, AllyJ is right. They're not great (at least in the shorter size)if you've got legs with a bit of muscle. The trousers above/below the zip fit perfectly but where the zip lies is tight - and doesn't really loosen off after wearing. They're not unwearable but they'd be a lot more comfortable with an extra cm or so of zip in them!
I have also bought a pair of the non-convertible trousers and am tempted to buy some of the crops too!
The navy pair were huge - probably nearly an 18, the brown pair fitted fine, but where the zips attached the lower leg were actually tight, I could feel it enough all the way around my leg.
I also ordered the same trouser with full length legs in an 18 in black. They are roomy but not huge and I have decided to keep them, wear with a belt and/or put darts in the waist.
I also ordered the Nosilife shorts in an 18 and they were really tight, so tight I couldn't believe it.
Great products and a fantastic price but sizing is all over the place.
Another thing to mention re the fit is that these were tight over my thighs (I cycle a lot and have muscles!). It wasn't uncomfortable, since the fabric is stretch and the tightness isn't extreme (think loose skinny jeans), but meant that as shorts they're not terribly airy and so quite warm. The fabric itself was warmer than I was expecting.
When I tried them on the zip didn't bother me at all - it sat a couple of inches above my knees and so bending etc didn't aggravate this. However, since I'd already decided to return them on the basis of the above, I didn't wear them outside, so they might have got irritating after a while as other reviews have mentioned. I don't think they would have though.
All in all, I returned them but I think they'd have fitted me in a size 10 (I love the option to buy long), and if you know what you're getting in terms of fit they're good quality. Just weren't quite what I was looking for.
