To start with, this manga collection is mearly a companion to the animé series, and does not act as a sequel or prequel but is instead another series of stories involving the Bebop crew. It is also helpful if you have watched the animé before reading the manga but it's not essential.

I'll begin with the positives. The animation manages to match the quick, fluid action scenes of the animé and each character is well-drawn, easily resembling their on-screen incarnations. The stories themselves are very reminiscent of the more light-hearted episodes of the animé and capture each characters' uniqueness effectively. The classic Bebop style of humour is also present and works well in this manga collection.

However, my main complaint is that the manga series doesn't really go very far. All of the stories, as mentioned above, are light-hearted and none capture the darker side of Bebop or develop a compelling storyline like the animé series managed so well. This is the kind of manga you read during your spare time or if you're feeling down after the end of the animé series but not the kind you really get really involved with. All in all, a nicely presented manga collection but don't be surprised if you forget about it straight after.

Cowboy Bebop is quite possibly the greatest anime of all time
Like all works of genius, cowboy bebop is difficult to categorise, maybe even as it itself somewhat arrogantly states, genre defining. It follows the somewhat accidental adventures of Spike Spiegel, bounty hunter extrodinaire with a ...shadowy past... Don't be put off by this formulaic sounding dull description though. BeBop is colourful, funny, exciting, sometimes even heartbreaking. And it features what i'd class as the greatest ending of any series ever.
If you haven't seen it, buy it.

Really good read - thoroughly recommend, especially if you're familiar with the anime series.

HASH(0x955054b0) out of 5 stars Bebop novels don't disappoint 1 Feb. 2004
By Claire - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
... but you may want to see the series first. I bought the manga before I owned the TV series, having heard all about Cowboy Bebop, but I'll warn you, it can get a little confusing if you're not already familiar with the characters. The first three books read like a typical episode of Cowboy Bebop, and they don't waste time on introductions and character development. If you've finished the series, these books are a good way to see your fave characters reunited again in more origianl and wacky plots to get cash. The manga is exquisitely drawn, and is presented in "100% Authentic Manga style" ((it reads right to left.))
One of the cutest stories is about Ed's past, when she meets an old firend under unusual circumstances.. but I won't spoil it for you!! *wink*
For die-hard Bebop fans, this is a must have. If you want an introduction to the series... well, it worked for me, it was just a little confusing at first. I think you'd enjoy it none the less...

HASH(0x9508c420) out of 5 stars Great collection of quality manga 22 Jan. 2004
By RC - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I'm fairly new to reading manga, so I figured my first encounter would be with a series I'm familiar with from my anime collection. This series as an anime is great and the manga is just as wonderful. The first 3 books of this collection go around the crew of the Bebop as they take on the most dangerous and sometimes wacky bounties in the solar system. Plenty of action and comedy for all. The second 2 books, stardust memory, is basically what the anime series was loosely based on. Even if you have the anime, its worth reading this collection. Overall I give this set a great score not only because of its high quality writing and artwork, but also because this set has inspired me to keep increasing my manga collection.

HASH(0x9508c8c4) out of 5 stars Good but Could be Better 25 Nov. 2004

Im a huge CowBoy Bebop fan so it was a no brainer that I'd by the entire series of Manga, but when I got it I was slighlty dissapointed. The art work was definitly not what I had been expecting and while it was still very good, it definitly had room for improvment and differd greatly from the art work used in the series. The story lines were good and easy to follow but I wouldn't suggest this series to somone if they don't already watch the show
