About the Author

Silla Webb is a Kentucky native, raised in the heart of the coal fields. A coal truck driver’s daughter, and a railroader’s wife, the coal fields own a special place in her heart. She is a work at home, Super Momma to three rowdy boys, who keep her on her feet from daylight to sunset. As a pass time from her everyday life, Silla started a blog-Momma’s Secret Book Obsession, for reviewing romance novels. From there, she realized that not only did she have a natural love for reading and reviewing, but she found that lost love of writing that she once had as a young girl. When she isn’t conquering the world as a wife, momma and Super Woman, Silla loves to lay on the front porch swing and read while sipping sweet tea, just passin’ the day away.

7 years to stay away is a long time, but understandable with what Carly-Jo went through.
To come back home to say goodbye is hard, Silla writes these areas of the story really well giving them the right amount of emphasis and discretion.
no spoilers as if your going to read don't want to give anything away.
Carlton has secrets he hid from Carly and Carly-Jo ran when sent away thinking she had to.
Angst, anger, anticipation, love, caring for the characters, yes Silla makes you feel all of these emotions and more.
Yes there is a Cliff hanger at the end, but its ok the second book is out so it wont be a cliff hanger too long.
A very different type of book romance setting from what I have picked up before but 5*s from me.

Found this book really hard going and I nearly gave up a few times. I just couldn't connect with Carly & Colton at all. Carly returns home after 7 years when her father is dying. Their feud is forgotten on his deathbed & he has left her his coal empire. The characters were false, Colton was arrogant one minute & flowery the next, and Carly was just dumb. Everyone kept pinching the bridge of their nose & did we really need to know what scent bubble bath she used & what book she read in the bath (talk about an advert). My biggest gripe was I know it's set in Kentucky & I know were told that's how folk in Kentucky talk but oh God it's annoying as all hell reading it. Did try to like it and there is some mystery woven in, but I will not be holding my breath for book 2 sorry.

Oh Lordy Lord! This book had me grabbing for tissues before the flippin 10% marker was up and TWICE! (And no not those tissues Rob! Private joke) I felt like I had fallen down the coal mine and come up for air deep in the heart of Kentucky whist reading this!

Now this book did have me questioning little things but the bones and the bigger picture had me feeling like I was reading a saga novel. Goodies, baddies, good decisions bad decisions, the biggest part I questioned was Colton's decision before what happened in the mine, I couldn't fully get behind that being done as it was... but heck the rest - excellently written.

Done in dual point of view, sometimes the POV's overlapped sequences and events and they were repeated which is a tad annoying but mostly it was nice to be in both their heads.

This book certainly leaves you wanting to know what's going to happen next. I am so looking forward to finding who 'it' belongs to and having some questions answered.

As for Team Colton or Team Luke, I actually am 100% behind Luke and I hope he's written well in the next book, I really like his whole personna. As for Colton what's not to like, his all alpha and he's all totally in love with Carly, the sequence of events in their lives has been extraordinarily rough especially for Carly and I do really like him but something has me routing for Luke more so.

Onwards to book 2 and looking forward to.

Omg I need the next book NOW!!!!!!

This was fantastic, it's full of angst, it's on the brutal side, but it's captivating making you feel like your a real part of the story.

Carly Jo and Colton will rip you to shreds with this read and with the cliffhanger at the end you'll be left begging for more.

Covered in Coal is Silla Webb’s debut onto the writing scene. And suffice it to say Silla will no longer be a Buried Secret!

Carly Jo Simon was a daddy’s girl, so when the going got tough as a teenager she turned to her beloved daddy for help and guidance. But Daddy scorned his little girl and words were said that would be hard to ever take back. Having had her heart stomped on by the love of her life, Colton Weston the night before, Carly Jo leaves Kentucky for Myrtle Beach.

After seven years Carly Jo is called back to Kentucky to her estranged father’s bedside to say her goodbyes and make amends. All of a sudden she finds herself as the CEO of Simon Coal Company, her Daddy’s company and forced to relocate to Kentucky and confront her past and the pain that she has locked up so tight. Now that Carly Jo is in Kentucky, she finds that Colton is not the same boy that she left seven years ago. And the longer she stays in Kentucky the more buried secrets she begins to uncover.

Silla writes characters that make you want to pull for them (or in certain cases against them) but either way she engages you with her characters. You can’t just sit back and not feel for them and what they are going through. And her whole writing style just made me feel immersed in the story and the Kentucky mines culture.

In the opening note from the Author we are warned of ‘a mind blowing cliff hanger.’ And, YES, Covered in Coal ends in a cliffy, but the story would not have been complete without it. I would have felt as if the characters and their stories weren't given their due if everything was tied up in a pretty little bow. Am I on pins and needles and anxiously awaiting news on when Book 2 will be released? Hell yes!!! But my gut says it will be way more than worth the wait!!

I received a Complimentary Copy of Covered in Coal from the author in exchange for my honest review.
