I think the map gives me what I need for my trip next year. I liked the zoom shots of the different areas placed on the back of the map and the numerous symbols seem very helpful. I'll find out if the map is really any good when I finally get to Costa Rica.

it is a huge map. It takes quite a bit of space to open it and it is not socomfi to use.
I was hopping to get a map in a brochure version, divided in several pages....

HASH(0x872f512c) out of 5 stars Out of date 18 Jan. 2013

The publication date is stated to be March 20, 2012, but, at best, it depicts many roads as they existed in 2005. It shows the new straight and level coastal highway from Quepos (Pacific Coast) to the south to Palmar Sur as a secondary road.It causes confusion choosing between Hwy 1, Hwy 3 and the "toll" road to go from San Jose to the Pacific Coast. The new "Autopisto del Sol" toll road has few curves, no steep grades, and reduces the time to get to the coast from 2 hours to 1 hour & 15 min. Most people would gladly pay the tolls (about $4 total)to reduce the travel time by 45 minutes, but they may choose Hwy 1 or 3, based on the width of the line and the designation that Hwy 1 is the Interamerican Highway. The map shows many roads throughout the country to be "untar" (their term for "gravel"), when, in fact, they are asphalted roads.

HASH(0x87814f0c) out of 5 stars Big color map that folds into convenient size. 13 Jan. 2013

It is a 'main road' map with altitude, parks, filling stations, airports and other useful info. It gives inset maps for several cities and areas, has avg temps for each area for each 12 months, calendar of events, distance between city chart, cities are indexed and has scales. A lot of information for a pretty small price.
HASH(0x87799ba0) out of 5 stars Need a GPS and a map if on your own in Costa Rica 18 Feb. 2013

This map is accurate and easy to follow. Costa Rica is a very difficult country to drive in since 90% of roads, highways and sites have no visible names or numbers. Using both we managed very well. The map helped for overall viewing of our destinations and general planning. GPS was critical for the specific driving. Recommend you have this and the Trackit GPS map.
HASH(0x872f5558) out of 5 stars Not Bad, but still limited 22 Jan. 2013

This is a decent map to use for trip planning to Costa Rica. It gives you a great overview of the country. However, you cannot use it for driving. You'll need to use GPS to locate destinations in Costa Rica because they don't use street addresses. The color scheme of the map is nice and I liked the topography aspect of it as well.
HASH(0x872f5708) out of 5 stars Useful Map 31 Jan. 2013

This is a very functional map for use in Costa Rica. It allowed us to only get lost once or twice (based on the lack of signage in Costa Rica and my mistake), but the make is of good quality and was a big help.
