About the Author

Allan Weisbecker is a novelist, screenwriter, award-winning photojournalist, and life-long surfer. He caught his first wave off Long Island, NY, in 1966, when he was 17 years old. Roaming the world in pursuit of waves during the heyday of the counterculture led to a career as a marijuana smuggler. He retired from that trade in 1980 and wrote Cosmic Banditos (Vintage), a gonzo rendering of his pot-pirate experiences.

From 1980 to 1995, Weisbecker was a screen writer for film and television programs including Miami Vice. During the 1990, he developed his career as a journalist and photographer, and his work now frequently appears in Smithsonian, Men s Journal, Popular Photography, American Photo, Sailing, and all the major surfing publications. Weisbecker lives on Long Island."

Our unnamed hero, his contrabandista chums and a big dog who doesn't mind easting snacks for smaller dogs set off on an epic quests for the meaning of life itself. From the mountains of Mexico to the middle of the USA they wreak havoc and destruction while investigating the discoveries of the 20th Century's greatest physicists. Books really dont get any more wierd and wonderful than this.

There are few books I have read which have made me laugh out loud! This one did - lots! Read this book, it will make you have a different view of the world you live in. You will be able to quote Quantum Theory after reading it as well. Buy it while it is still in print...

I've read this book three times. I've also bought this book three times because I keep giving it to friends who are going travelling.

It's probably the most entertaining and inspiring piece of quasi-fiction you'll ever come accross.

It just needs to be made into a movie with Johnny Depp playing one of the main characters.

Buy this book. If you hate it, contact me and i'll buy it from you, and punch you in the face for having terrible taste in literature.

For years whilst it's been out of print, dog-eared 2nd hand copies of this book have been snatched up for hundreds of pounds, and those lucky enough to own a copy but foolish enough to lend it to a friend never EVER saw the book again (unless they paid hundreds of pounds in an antique book shop).
This book is about international drug smuggling and quantum physics, it reads like a movie, has extreme violence, drug crazed hilarity, and a cute pooch to boot. In short, it rocks. Buy it now while you can - no, buy two copies, and then you have one to lend.......

Was given this book in 1989. It has survived 2 years in the Sierra Leone civil war, several house moves and 5 children. It remains one of the best and funniest books I have read. I still have my original copy and read it about once a year. A great intro to quantum physics..

It was an easy and amusing read but, from my expectations arising from the hype and acclaim, I felt a little disappointed. Some of the imagery invoked in my mind related to "The Pirates! In an adventure with Scientists!"

I found the quantum physics links somewhat contrived but it was an interesting attempt to make an average book appear more thoughtful and involved.
