The Pretzel Highchair from Cosatto (Word Zoo Cocoa design)
Lean on me
The Pretzel Highchair is the wholesome wooded chap that grows with your little one. A sturdy feeding foundation with a three-stage adjustment for weaning, tothood, and beyond, Pretzel is a supportive suppertime star with chunky organic contours that channels country kitchen or contemporary diner. Pretzel has a comfy padded seat and smooth organic form for tactile teatimes.
The pommel strap lets little wrigglers hunker down and eat snug with no seat slip-downs. Pretzel scrubs up well with removable washable padded seat – Cosatto splodge-proof si the Pretzel. The wooden tray allows freestanding feeding; flip it back or remove it for up-to-the-table family feasts. Babies are little social beings, not solo diners. Trust Pretzel from weaning to grown-up gatherings. A life-long chomping chum, adults love sitting on Pretzel too. Everyone's longstanding friend, Pretzel stands the test of time.
How do I look?
With subtle Scandinavian sweeping lines and cheeky lolly stick legs, Pretzel is mighty easy on the eye. Cosatto cute with a sturdy core, Pretzel flows friendly from top to beechy roots. As this comes with the tray, cushion (of sorts) and a strap which stops baby falling "through" the seat - then this chair seems good value.
The quality of the construction materials seems good, and it screws together well - initial impressions were great - it was just disappointing that it wobbles a little once assembled (without baby sitting in it).
It doesn't wobble with baby sitting in it, so we have decided to keep it, rather than having to disassemble it again to send it back.
If it didn't wobble, they replaced the "light coloured wipeable fabric cushion" with something more wipeable and less cloth like, gave it a more chip resistant paint job (it has chipped a little bit already), it came in a range of different colours, with a harness...
- then this could be a really really great product!
For now, compared to the seeming lack of competition, it will do fine.
Despite taking good care of the chair, and cleaning it properly, it looks a complete mess. It looks like I either haven't ever cleaned it, and that I've taken a wire brush to it. You can't buy a plastic removable cover for the tray/table like you can with other chairs.
All that I could cope with, but the final part is what really puts me off. My son rocks back and forth in this chair. Sometimes gently, sometimes violently. But any time he does rock, the back legs of the chair actually come off the ground. The front ones do too when he rocks backwards. It really scares me. So much so that whenever he is sat in his chair, me or my other half will sit with a foot on it to keep it on the floor.
I honestly would not recommend this chair to anyone. I'm stuck with it as there's no chance I can return it with the state it's in.
I would really recommend this item.
My toddler enjoys sitting in it and eating with us or drawing while we work on the dining table. However, because the safety bar comes in quite close, it's a bit tricky getting him in and out of the chair unless he keeps his legs quite straight (which he usually remembers to now do. However, if he was a larger, chubbier child, i do wonder how he would manage to get in because the safety bar would be quite restrictive. Our boy is 2yo now and quite cautious so I think in a few months, we might be able to remove the safety bar so he can climb in and out himself reasonably safely.
It's also hard to believe that a much older child could use the chair because the seat doesn't look wide enough but we'll have to wait and see about that!
1.) looks nice but the lacquer / paint chips really easily, my chair is 5 months old (bought late October) and the top tray looks 2 years old!
2.) does not fold
3.) seat covers are not wipe easy. Their an absorbent material and stain easily and have a really strange smell even after being washed.
4.) it is easy to move however
5.) it is light! But that's it
It doesn't come with a harness, but there are rings to attach one if you so wish. I do feel that a harness should come as standard though, especially as this is not a cheap high chair. To be honest however, with the front bar, you probably won't need one, as the bar is quite a tight fit. In fact, if your kid is a bit chubby like my little lad, it may be even too tight without dropping the seat.
However, there are a few other issues with the chair in general. The tray is a bit flimsy for a wooden model compared to others, and our support bar has developed a crack after less than a full month of use. It's not a deal breaker, but we're having to watch it to make sure it doesn't get worse. Also, the fabric covering is not wipable and gets very dirty, which makes it a pain to clean properly. Compared to for example EastCoast nursery chair that we have for our other twin, it's not well designed.
So, to sum up, while it's a nice looking chair and it has some good features, it feels a bit flimsy, and combined with the poor choice in fabric covering, lack of harness and too tight cross bar, I can't give it more than 3 out of 5.
