SSD (solid state drives) are a format of drives in 2.5-inch form factor and which can be used as an alternative boot drive for a laptop or a desktop. A 3.5-inch carrier/converter is provided within the pack together with the necessary screws. They are very rugged and do not have any moving parts and so are power-saving. Because they are fully encapsulated, there is very little risk to the control circuitry from short-circuits or by accidental contact.
Some laptop manufacturers are beginning to offer an SSD either as an optional addition to certain models or have added one to the more powerful of their range to boost the start-up speed of the machine, down to about 10-15 seconds in some instances.
The drive is much faster than any equivalent hard drive although the capacities tend to be smaller and the prices higher. For a similar price to that needed for this, you could buy the fastest 1TB 2.5-inch hard drive now available but it would not match this for access speed. A 512GB version, the largest capacity currently available, will cost about the same as a mid-range laptop or PC!
It is fully connector compatible and identical in size to a 2.5 inch drive but some laptops provide for only one drive but some of the larger ones (usually 17-inch and upwards) may allow for a second to be installed. If you happen to be in that lucky position, you can move your existing C drive to the D drive location and use this as the C drive. 120GB is more than sufficient for the operating system and most people's installed software. There are utilities to move the operating system from one drive to another to make life simpler for the user. However, you should bear in mind that most laptop manufacturers provide recovery and repair utilities and a repair partition in usually hidden partitions and they should also be copied to the new drive. That will require specialised software to which many users will not have access, but they can be purchased.
If your laptop does not allow dual drive installations, you can use it as an alternative to the larger capacity memory sticks, if housed in a case or used with an adapter or a drive docking bay (preferably USB 3.0).

I started my drive from scratch with a fresh install of windows 7 - note that the drive does not come with any drive copy or ghosting software. No issues with setup, no firmware to update, and the drive was posting the reviewed ATTO benchmark speeds. With that, my computer now boots in 14 seconds from POST to being able to be used.
Overall, I am very pleased with the drive, and I have always loved Corsair products for their function and their support. Overall, purchasing this drive will make any computer feel faster and more modern, and there are no issues with reliability or speed.

This is the second one I tried. The first lasted less than a month and amazon provided a replacement quicky.
This is not amazon's fault just bad drives. I've used Corsair products for a long time and never had problems with them.
Just don't think the ssd's are ready for prime time.
1) Secure erased via Linux Boot CD.
2) Used Acronis True Image to Restore old System's Boot image onto this.
3) Created 4GB RAM Drive Disk and placed into it System's TEMP folders, IE and Firefox Cache e.t.c
4) With 63% of the drive filled I came to the following Benchmarking Results:
