This dark and twisty tale is well written as all Barnard`s books are but the background detail is so well mixed with a deeper level of characterisation than usual that the overall effect is deeply disturbing and satisfying. One of Charley`s best outings.

Another cosy read from Barnard. Declan, a likeable young Irish man gets himself a job with a commune of artist types. Things get nasty. The descriptions of the famous old artist's 'brilliant' work make you yearn for a bunch of sunflowers in a pot.
