From the Author
Medical ethics is an area that is playing an increasingly large part in medical exams, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In this book we have tried to provide a clear guide to thinking around some of the commonly encountered ethical problems, using PBL style (problem-based learning) scenarios, as faced by many students in their exams, and encountered on the wards.
We hope that even those who have considerably less interest in medical ethics than we have will find this short volume easy to digest, and through it increase their understanding of this important subject. Just like any other area of your practice, you must be able to justify the ethical decisions you make about your patients. We hope this is a starting place from which your ethical awareness might grow.
