I was so excited about this album coming out and finally i got it! And let me tell you, it was defintely not a disappointment! This album has 10 fantastic songs on it (i'm not a fan of the closer Death Sex: 12 mins of unlistenable noise and the guitar screeching actaully hurt my ears! But lets not dwell on that.....)My favourites have got to be The Hunger, The Gallow Is God and Love Is Paranoid. I couldn't help but notice when i was listening to the album how much The Distillers have changed since thier last brillant album Sing Sing Death House. They still have thier punk sound but it isn't so raw and instead of Brody just telling you blunty what she's singing about, in Coral Fang most of her lyrics are metaphorical and you have to actualy work out what she's singing about. I think this is good though because everyone will have thier own interpretations of the songs. In no way though am i saying this is a bad thing. Maybe they havn't so much changed, but progressed. This shows how great a band The Distillers are, they are still the same band, they still play punk, but they've managed to make an album that isn't a complete replica of thier last one. I also think that the recruitment of new guitarist Tony Bradley was a wise idea. On Coral Fang all the songs are a lot more varied in terms of chords used and melodies played and Andy has learned to play a different drum beat! Brody Dalle has excelled herself on this album! I know she needed the rest of the band to help her but she does deserve most of the credit because she wrote all the songs and lyrics and her amazing voice is what makes this band stand out! If you're already fans of the The Distillers then you should love this album and if you've never heard of them before, believe me it would be well worth your time checking them out!

You can change the cover of an album, but what you listen on the album are the same angst-fuelled punk songs that the Distillers have been writing for the past 3 albums . The beginning bass line of 'Drain the Blood' is amazing. 10 seconds in and you are hooked into the intoxicating vocals, the booming drum beat, the raging guitars and the pure excellent bass. 'Drain the Blood' is the first single from the album and on the first listen you can hear why, the chorus is just so catchy that you'll be humming it to yourself for weeks. As you listen through the album there are a few fast, vicious songs ('Dismantle Me', 'Die On A Rope' Or 'Coral Fang') and there are quite slow songs like 'The Gallow Is God'. Though the song that will surprise most punks is 'For Tonight You're only Here To Know' which is probably the best (and probably only) punk rock love song. It is slow moving in the verse and then kicks in with a faster a bit, include a 'short but sweet' intrumental bit and you have the best thing since 'City Of Angels'. One thing that scratches the albums 'perfect' status is the last song, 'Death Sex'. Sure it starts of well, but after the first 4 minutes you start to lose consentration, and by minute 7 you're prepared to skip the rest of the track, and how is to blame you it's 12 bloody minutes long.
The lyrics in 'Coral Fang' are slightly different to the ones in 'Sing Sing Death House', in the fact that they aren't as up-front and 'screw you' as their second album, Brody Dalle uses methaphorical terms that, though witty and imaginative, make it so 'Coral Fang' can't be enjoyed by everyone, but the people who will enjoy it will enjoy it on many more ways than the average fan could with 'Sing Sing Death House'.

I can't stress enough how incredible this album is!! I bought it on Saturday and I haven't been able to put anything else in my CD player since.........it really is THAT good. You have to buy it! Sorry to make Courtney Love comparisons- but if you're a Hole fan you'll know what I mean. This is The Distillers "Celebrity Skin" album. Its more polished, the lyrics are more complex and it is (dare I say it) more melodic than their previous albums. Its probably because they are on a major label now........frankly I don't care. This is one of the best albums I have ever heard- BUY IT!!

I've been waiting for this album to come out for months and when i finally purchased it i thought "wow!" The songs are generally more polished then the last too albums but it manages to keep its punk credibility.
My favourite of all track is The Hunger. This track is a haunting grungier track which starts out soft (for the distillers that is) and then Brody screams the chorus in her signature voice. This album has a lot more variety then their other albums. In my opinion i dont think u could call this album "old school" punk but its still very much a punk album.
I would recomend this album to both new fans of the band and the current fans cos this album is effing awsome!

Things change this much is true and can you really expect the same band to constantly churn out the same stuff all the time. WELL to my suprise what have people been saying about this album "Well it's not like the first two". Yes that much is true and yes the "Hardcore" punks are probably not gonna lap up this latest offering from Brody and her crue but this change could be for the better. I personally don't think that the constant comparisons to Courtney Love or Hole is fair cus at the end of the day the Distillers made this theirs. I'm no hardcore punk person but i really enjoyed their first two albums. Raw and gritty they showed a rebellious streak and a passionate flare. Coral fang is a softer approach to dealing with things. "The gallow is god and The hunger" are suprisingly interesting boasting Brody's vocal talents, which are suprisingly good. Of course the faster songs like "Dismantle me" and "Hall of mirriors" aint gonna hit the notes like "Red carpet and Rebellion" and "Sick of it all" but this is a movement that suprised me and pleased me. I shall close it off by saying that i don't know much about punk so you will have to excuse me if i have insulted any major fans. But this is a uplifting album with showed me yet another side to the ever talented Distillers.
