I always wondered how items became 'cursed' in role-playing games. Now I know...

A christmas special is a sure-fire indicator that a franchise is in it for the long run, and this instalment makes a timely christmas bonus to fans of the series. Cooper teaches us the meaning of christmas, even if that meaning is mostly to do with explosive diarrhoea.

Bevan continues to up his game as a comedy writer, unabashedly plumbing the depths of crudity one moment, and showing a masterful flair for tongue-in-cheek self-referencing the next. He skips from the vulgar to the absurd to good-old fashioned slapstick with total fluidity, all the while never neglecting a quick-fire plot.

I wouldn't recommend this book to a newcomer of the creatures and caverns series, but fans will certainly not be let down.

Word of advice: don't read this while eating a box of shaokao. Partly because it's absolutely revolting, partly because you're going to be laughing out loud frequently...
