Since I had no recognition in this, I asked my friend who knows all about hardware to reccomend me something, he said to pick this up, since he is using one, and he has never felt any better using a keyboard before. Not thinking much, I ordered it and waited for the package.
First impression I had when I got it, that this damn thing is heavy! 1.2kg's is definetly something, so I will be sure it won't move from my desk when I'm in a middle of a fierce exchange of opinions while browsing YouTube. Alternatively, when someone breaks into my house, I can just smack him with that! Huge plus for CoolerMaster.
Second of all, it has a nice design, button's are engraved from the inside, so you can be sure the will not be easily destroyed. The clicking sound is really nice, especially when typing, giving you a nice feeling of a typewriter.
I also enjoy the light modes and the possibility of disabling the windows button, so nothing can put you back into the system but the good old Shift+Tab.
Overall, it's really nice, comfortable, but has some issues.
First of all: it's really elevated. People with a palm type of writing can get some problems. I myself needed to dig out an old wrist-support mouse pad and put it where my WASD keys are so I can actually enjoy using it, but I guess it's because it has a massive amount of intestines it would be impossible for CM to make it less high. You should invest in a wrist-support for this one though, because it can be a problem with keyboard's ergonomics.
I was a little dissapointed about the partial illumination. You would've thought that it can be lit entirely - it can not. Not a big deal, it does light up the most important side of the keyboard, also you are given couple of modes and the amount of light you want to have, so these are definetly nice features. Personally it doesn't bother me that much, but there can be someone who might be dissapointed.
Last of all: don't pick it up if you want something silent. This thing could wake up dead just so you can hit them in the head with CoolerMaster. If you have roomates, SO or anyone in your close enviroment who has a light sleep, don't. It's nice to hear those clacks, but at the same time recording with it can be a little problematic, but that's just taste.
Overall I give it 4/5 out of 4. I would give it 4.5, but there is no option like that. Definetly worth picking up at this price, you can be sure it won't break down in a loooong time.
With 1000Hz Ultrapolling It has an extremely fast response time. The keys don't feel clicky, and there's little feedback, making it not very great for typing (With time, it gets GREAT for typing fast) at least until you get used to the feel of it.
The force required for it to register a keystroke is the lowest of all switch types, this is a either love it or hate it... if you like to type fast and loosely (barely pressing the key) then this is perfect for you.
There's function/media keys up top which are activated by the Fn Key. The key lights up when active.
You can control the back-lighting by choosing a light level, activate blinking mode, or steady. There's also the option to only light up the directional keys and WASD (for gaming).
Another little detail is the fact that the USB cable is detachable. It has a micro-USB plug.
Overall, I rate it 4/5 because having partial back-lighting is something that I find a bit silly... they could've done the rest of the keys for a slightly lower profit on it (Or maybe it would sell even better) This keyboard was obviously designed with gamers in mind, but it can fit anyone who likes the feel of red switches and wants a reliable, authentic, mechanic solution for their typing.
Note: This review was typed using this particular keyboard.
I am not going to review the feel of the keyboard, since anyone who has used/read about Cherry MX Red Switches will know/have read about the feel of this board. A quick summary - Linear Feedback, Extremely low actuation force.
Overall Pros:
-Choice of Cherry MX Switches - I chose Reds because I am primarily using this keyboard for gaming. WARNING - THIS VERSION OF THE PRODUCT ON AMAZON IS REDS ONLY! The Keyboard is available in Reds, Blacks, Browns and Blues, but not from Amazon. Make sure that you know which switches to get before you purchase! I wanted Reds though, so yeah
-Price - This Keyboard is one of the most affordable Mechanical Keyboards (besides hooking an ancient IBM Model M from a skip) on the market!
-Build Quality - This Keyboard is a BEAST. Weighs over a kilogram, and is as rigid as a steel girder. This keyboard is NOT going to break very easily....
-Adjustable Polling Rate/Rollover - Since USB has issues with NKRO and high polling rates, it is a nice inclusion that the polling rate is adjustable without software. Additionally, the Psuedo-NKRO is very good - the high polling rate (1ms) allows a almost NKRO like feel due to human reaction times being far more than 1ms...
Overall Cons:
-Selective Backlight - The backlight only lights the gaming cluster, space bar and arrow keys
-No Wrist Rest - The lack of a wrist rest is unfortunate, but for the price, cannot really be argued with.
