I have been using Sean's books on Scratch as the basis for teaching Coderdojo classes to an age range of 8 to 15 years. I have been very happy with the material and I am currently teaching it to a 3 hour weekly session with all 15 -20 participants using the introductary TIPS online tutorial in Scratch 2.0 online and then Cool Scratch Projects book. This approach is proving successful and satisfying. I have also used Sean's "Scratch Programming in easy steps" and found it very acceptable.

This was the first time I've read a book about how to create computer games and other similar projects.
The content is really engaging. Even if you have never created any computer games before, you really feel it's within your reach!
The author turned the technical language into something fun to read and easy to understand.
I liked the use of friendly icons to give tips, remind of essential points and warn the reader about technical intricacies.
I also liked the very colorful typography and the print shots/images in color to illustrate the different steps.
The idea of 3D computer games and projects using 3D glasses makes it all even more interesting and challenging!

I think the book is a great read for beginners and advanced Scratch users alike!
I liked the fact that the book contains clear and easy to understand instructions, with a lot of creative projects and ideas. It is a great gift for anyone wishing to expand their Scratch know-how, and offers lots of opportunities for readers to stretch their own ability and get imaginative. I found the book to be a good stepping-stone for any aspiring computer programmer as almost all of the logic can be applied to most industry level languages. I also really loved the 3D projects and 3D glasses as they introduced me to a whole new area of computing that I had never really explored before.

The second book from Sean McManus on Scratch, and once again we weren't disappointed. Sean's easy to follow style allowed my 8 and 11 year olds to follow along with very little input from me, or their teachers who ordered their own copies. The projects are obviously tried and tested and dig into some of the more interesting capabilities of the Scratch programming language. Having flipped through the book a couple of times our interest had been well and truly piqued by chapter 4 - Angry Aliens. This chapter showed how with a little imagination Scratch could be used to develop 3D games - Yes 3D! Thirty minutes later we were flying through space destroying aliens equipped with our 3D glasses for extra alien protection ;-)

Whilst the book is easy to read from cover to cover the chapters are also full of easy to use information that can be incorporated into the reader's own projects. It also includes suggestions for how the reader can extend their own projects by considering how a project could be improved through adding a score board or enhanced sound effects.

A highly comprehensive book suitable for all and a perfect complement to Scratch Programming in easy steps: Covers Versions 2.0 and 1.4 . Highly recommended even those with little to no programming experience.

Format: Kindle Edition
I really enjoyed this book, It is very creative and the project are more detailed than the ones in the previous book. I have also read Scratch Programming in Easy Steps and I think that the projects in this book are more complex and get straight to the point, i.e there's less explaining and more projects. The coloured pictures and helpful tips are also very useful
Therefore I think this is the perfect coding book if you just want to get coding straight away
Jess, aged 12
