When I bought this, I wasn't really expecting much for such a low price, but I was pleasantly surprised by it. Okay, it may be a bit flimsy and cheap looking, but what do you expect? Below, I will tell you what I done to improve this product.....
Okay, so the first thing you will probably notice once it is up and running, is that the cooling stand is literally about one millimeter from the base of the PS3. Such a small gap means that the majority of the air being directed by the fans is more than likely just being forced back through the fan itself and out the bottom of the stand, thus serving no purpose. What you want to do is put a little bit of distance between the stand and the base of the PS3. I found four little rubber legs which came from the fastening bolts of my washing machine. These are about an inch thick, and really let the air flow between the cooling stand and the PS3. Alternatively you can cut two strips of wood and place them in between the PS3 and cooling stand. Anything between 0.5 and 1.5 inches is probably optimal.
You will also want to make sure that the cooling stand is higher at the back. The reason for this is that the majority of the air will be forced to the higher position, so in this case, it will be forced to the back of the PS3, which is where the vents are situated. By forcing the cool air towards the back, you are effectively dispersing the warm air which is released from the back of the PS3.
Some of the reviews state that this cooling stand is pointless because there is no vents on the bottom of the PS3, but besides the heat sync's and thermal paste, ventilation is the next best thing in helping your PS3 have a long life. So even if the cool air is not being forced directly in to the PS3, the fans are helping to circulate the air around it, thus keeping it cooler.
When you throw in the cool blue LED lights, I just don't know what's to lose in giving this product a chance. Even if you only get a few months out of it, they're so cheap you can replace it in an instant!
