This book is so good I am going to have to get a couple of extra copies for my friends. It explains everything you need to know about shopping in spain, and cooking Spanish food. Unlike some cook books the recipies are authentic and simply written. Good introduction to ingredients, regional information and methods used. I don't live in Spain so it is still applicable and all the more interesting for those who don't.

My Mother bought this book about 20 years ago via the ex-pat magazine Lookout and it's been used so many times they have had to purchase a new copy. I still have the original (with foodstains included!) and according to my Father who is Spanish and was a Food and Beverage Manager for a Major International Hotel-Chain for over 20 years, this book is the best book he has ever found on the subject.

Janet Mendel has collected these recipes by travelling into the villages of Spain and asking the local women to show her what is what and how to cook it.

If you love Spanish cooking this book is indispensable. Alternatively, 1080 Recipes by Simone Ortega is also good but not as simple as this book.

This book was recommended to us by a friend living in Spain. As we are considering a new life in Spain, then this seemed to be the perfect cooking assistant. It has a multitude of meals to prepare and cook written in English but offers the addition of a translation of ingredients. For example, if you require 'nutmeg 'for a recipe, it gives you the Spanish translation so you can buy the correct ingredient from the Spanish shop. Can't wait to try out the meals and tapas.
