About the Author
Formally a health visitor and nurse, Kate Shirazi moved to Devon looking for a slower pace of life. She founded the Cakeadoodledo mail order cupcake business in 2006 from her farmhouse kitchen and has seen it boom. Her flock of battery rescue hens are stars in their own right. Her first book, 'Cupcake Magic' has been a runaway success - biscuits are a natural progression...

However, be prepared to read the introduction. It looks long and is a bit patronising, but it explains some of the quirks. For example, the author never says how many cookies each recipe makes, saying only it makes 'one batch'. This is explained why in the intro, but it is slightly annoying none the less.
Some of the recipes i can recommend are the shortbread (very easy and tasty), the chocolate orange cookies, and the rosemary crackers.
One to watch out for is the borbon biscuit recipe, in it she uses golden syrup to bind the dough and as a result the biscuit comes out very hard. Also the filling quantity is far too much. But that is my personnal opinion.
Overall, a pretty, colourful and useful book for the kitchen.
The pictures are inspiring and nicely done, though there are a few recipes (mainly towards the back) where there are no pictures, a shame as this is what makes me want to try out the recipes the most. This doesn't detract from the book though, as so far I have found all the recipes are very good. The reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that calling it "Cookie Magic" is really rather misleading as there are only about 3 recipes in here that I'd call cookies, all the rest are very much in the biscuit domain. However the biscuits are all very yummy and I can see this book getting a lot of use.
