How to set resolution to fit our HDMI audio extractor:

a) Connect your 4K@60Hz HDMI 2.0 input device" directly to the TV.

b) Go to "setting -- picture -- resolution (choose "Auto"), then go to "HDMI color format" (choose "Auto").

2. Please set your HDMI devices audio output format to PCM/LPCM: Device homepage -- System setting -- Image and sound -- Voice setting -- Digital audio output -- PCM/LPCM.

3. Please make sure that the input source is 5.1ch and then set the audio output mode of your input device to Dolby digital. The path is: device main page -- system settings -- image and sound -- sound setting -- digital audio output -- Dolby digital.

Perfect to extract sound for my PC monitor with no audio options

I got this to split out the sound from an Amazon Prime stick. I'm using a PC monitor with no sound so needed to extract the audio feed. Combined with a headphone amp (see my other review) this works very well. I simply plug in my headphones to the 3.5mm jack but other options work well too.

The great thing here is that when I power everything down and backup again, there are no buttons to press, switches to set, it just comes back up as it went off and works.

Finally, a note on power, I'm running this off the USB output from the monitor, and it works well.

Worked straight out of the box

I've had a nightmare trying to connect my XBox via toslink to my phono based 5:1 speaker system. For some reason I just cannot fathom, it does not work. So, in desperation I decided that a different approach might be needed.

This claims it splits the audio from the HDMI feed. Okay I though, worth a try.

It works. It works so perfectly I could curse myself for not trying earlier. HDMI in from XBOX and PC so I can share the monitor, Toslink cable out to a converter unit that has the speaker phonos plugged in. It worked. It worked without any pressing of buttons, endless fiddling with cables, and without turning the air blue from frustration. Full surround sound at whatever family frustrating volume I choose. That makes me a very happy person indeed.

Worth every penny and the 10 minutes it took to set up.

Good quality and good value HDMI switch with audio splitter - highly recommended

Had this for three weeks and am really pleased with it. I wanted a HDMI switch with a separate audio splitter/extractor to pipe sound to my CD/Hifi and portable speaker, and this is exactly that. Saves having to buy a separate sound bar with HDMI pass-through to get decent sound - and these things are expensive compared to the basic sound bars without HDMI input/output. Back to the HDMI switch - here's some pros/cons from my limited experience.

PROS
+ [ Good build quality] I differ from one or two reviewers who felt the build quality was found wanting. This is pretty decent and doesn’t feel like it will fall apart any time soon. Time will tell.
+ [ Good remote/sensitivity ] The remote is quite sensitive / responsive unlike an older HDMI splitter which often left me cursing while repeatedly pressing and pointing the remote at the unit. This one just works.
+ [ No switching or audio lag ] Audio lag was a real concern for me but I’m glad I’ve been proven wrong, having tested it with a Sky box, a Roku box and a laptop. Additionally, switching between HDMI inputs is pretty fast - just under a second. Another HDMI switch I had took around 3-5 seconds for some inexplicable reason.
+ [ No separate IR receiver ] Unlike some HDMI switches, the IR receiver is built into the box itself. This may be a cons for some, as you lose the flexibility of hiding this out of sight, but it works for me and saves having to carry one more accessory.
+ [ USB powered ] No need for separate power adaptor but you do need a spare USB port on your TV or nearby.
+ [ Good value ] Almost all the other HDMI switches (multiple input) with separate audio output typically cost £30-£40, may be one or two at £25, so this is pretty good value. Those within this price range often support only one HDMI input.

CONS
- [ No separate IR receiver ] OK, it’s not a cons for me but it may be for you, if you want to hide the unit out of sight. Well, you can’t since the IR receiver is built into the box itself. Not a real cons for me but just to highlight its design.
- [ No separate power adaptor ] OK, again, not a cons for me but worth highlighting that, if you’ve maxed out the USB ports on your TV, you’ll need a separate USB hub.

Simple solution for no headphone jack on TV

My bedroom tv has no headspeaker jack and has only 2 HDMI sockets, the sound was pretty poor too. Using the Converter I attached my Chromecast, Now TV and Amazon Firestick via the 3 HDMI slots, then plugged in 40w computer speakers. From the comfort of my own bed I can remotely switch to whichever medium I wish. However, once I manually set a preferred audio level for my speakers I cannot adjust that via my TV remote. With additional cables that's possible I'm fairly sure. I just haven't done it. For little expense I got what I wanted, for the effort of literally plug and play. It was a simple option for me. Very happy with the end result.

Rubbish. Sometimes works, most of the time doesn't output video, only sound. Sometimes works if I unplug the power for a few minutes, other times even that doesn't work. If I press the 'TV' button on the remote that comes with this box, I get an image on the screen for a split second before it disappears, which proves it isn't a cable issue. I've tried a 1amp and 2amp usb chargers to see if it's a power problem, nothing changes. Complete waste of my time, now I have to package it up and try to find the time to send it back. My friends had the same issue with one of these boxes a while back, I didn't realise it was the same one until now. Avoid

5.1 doesn't work for anything! Stereo sound works for everything (including Firestick, Netflix, Prime, Disney, PS3).

Despite what this is advertised as it does not work for 5.1 sound on the optical output on everything I tried.
However it does work on the 2.0 (Stereo) for everything from the PS3 and the Firestick including Netflix. The 2.0 Sound is deep and rich too. The picture quality is also good and I didnt notice any latency in the sound (lip sync). I'm surprised it was so good for the price but it is still good enough because....

I wanted this to get 5.1 sound, the whole point of buying it and it doesn't do that I will be sending it back.
Also the remote control is ok, but the receiver is useless! I think it is placed too deep in the box so the angle of sensing is very narrow.
