A bargain solid high-res camera!
That's the positive side. The negatives are 1) the battery, although supposed to get 2 hours, runs out about 90 mins, which is WAY too short for any decent bike run and, because it can't record while plugged in to the power via USB and no ability to insert a spare battery already charged, since battery is built in, this makes it not very useable as a security device (any bad events are sure to happen after your battery dies)
2) it only takes a 32GB sd card, which again is too small for recording a full bike run (assuming the battery outlasts the remaining GB on the card. 3)The quality is NOT HD, number plates of passing cars are indistinguishable, which is pointless when needing information to convict bad drivers who cause offence or accident and then do not stop. All in all, I feel I would have been better forking out the little bit extra to get a proper gopro. 4)I have had the video jumble itself up ie, the end of the trip was showing in the middle of the video instead of at the end (don't ask me how that is possible, but it did it, weird)
In the box you get the camera, lens cap, 8gb Sd card and adaptor, 2 sticky mounts (one is 360 degree), 1 extra sticky pad for 360 mount, USB lead, carry bag, Contour sticker and a fail safe tie. Eight minutes of 1080p recording equates to approx. 1gb so in theory with the included 8gb card it should last an hour. I bought a 32gb card, don't go any higher than this as it's not supported. Use Class 10.
The images are good and still shots can taken in 5mp form. There are lots of adjustments for the picture quality, aspect, sound and even a mode for continuous still picture shooting whilst recording.
I've mounted mine on the side of my crash helmet. If you have a sports bike like me you will need to mount it above the horizontal, remember, when you lean on the bars your head dips down and you adjust your eyes up. If you don't adjust the camera up you will be recording the front tyre. The 360 mount is ideal for this as it can be rotated incrementally. It just takes trial and error. The laser is a handy feature to adjust the camera on the horizon. Still shots can be taken manually when recording or not. The sting in the tail is the price of extra mounts. Enjoy.
I used the adjustable mounting on my helmet, rather than the curved one, and found it gave me more adjustment potential plus the additional security of the tie string. It appears to be attached very securely.
Not too obtrusive.
Contacted Contour in us and their uk supplier nothing not even a reply.
