"Consulting for Real People: a Client-Centred Approach for Change Agents and Leaders, 2/e" shows you how to become truly client-centred by empowering your client and supporting them right through to the point where the new behaviour replaces the old. Formerly titled "Client-Centred Consulting: A Practical Guide for Internal Advisers and Trainers", this highly successful book has been fully updated to reflect advances in the field. The scope of the book has also been expanded to include issues, dilemmas and the operational styles of both internal and external change agents. Other new topics covered include change management issues for leaders, managing large-scale organisational changes, and ways in which change agents can empower themselves and their clients. The book begins with an exploration of all aspects of change management from the perspective of consultant, manager or team leader. It goes on to explore the range of consulting styles available and the structure of the consultant-client relationship. Finally it explains why successful change agents must have a high level of personal power and self-esteem and it explores ways in which these can be acquired.

This book will help anyone who works as a change agent, helping, influencing or advising individuals or teams. They could be: Leaders and line managers who want to adopt a more collaborative style to maximise the commitment of their people to change initiatives
Internal Consultants who facilitate change in their own organisations without formal authority and who are committed to working with their clients in a client centred way. They are likely to work in functions like H.R. Training, IT, Business Consulting, Finance and Audit, Continuous Improvement, Marketing, Change Management, Customer Care, Systems Development.
I would highly recommend anyone who works as a change agent, helping, influencing or advising individuals or teams, or simply want to be a more effective person.
There is a week long training programme accompany this book called “A Client Centred Approach to Managing Change, Leading and Consulting” run by Oxford Management Consultants which I attended last week.
The strength of the model used is that it is totally holistic - it covers every conceivable situation that a consultant or leader will ever encounter,and....it does not have a "sell-by date" - this is not some gimmicky shallow "psychobabble" but rather a deep and considered approach that seeks to help us to understand and work with the very essence of human nature.
Learning not only about the various Consulting styles but also about the facilitation of change in an organisation were of extreme value to me.
I rate the book 4.5/5.
