5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome piece of kit at a bargain price! 21 Mar. 2015

I spent quite a long time searching around for a cheaper solution that VW and Halfords, who wanted to charge the Earth! I didn't want an iPod connection which constantly charged my iPod and killed the battery and a lot of the iPod 21pin cable connectors (which usually connect inside the glove box) you can only play one of 6 set playlists.....rubbish.

This cable is cheap and works a treat. The youtube videos on how to remove the radio were essential and although the job appeared very daunting it was actually quite simple and only took about 40 mins. As other people have suggested the supplied rca-3.5mm cable is far too short and relatively useless so make sure you get a longer one on the cheap. If you're feeling a bit fancy, as I was, then you can get a rica-3.5mm female lead and fit it into the black buttons near the gearstick. Well worth the little extra effort in my opinion.

And remember to earth the black cable on the metal of the radio body.

Overall, brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works perfectly 15 Jun. 2016

Received within a couple of days. Dismantled the dashboard (a bit of a pain on a Golf as you can't just slide the head unit out) and installed, plugged in iPod and it works brilliantly. Only reservation is that the RCA-3.5mm lead is fine if you want to install so that the iPod is in the glovebox, but as you can't control the iPod from the head unit I wanted to install it somewhere within easy reach, so swapped the lead for a 1 metre one, and now have it so that the iPod is in a Brodit clip on the dashboard.

Brilliant service & works very well, highly recommend as a cheap way to get mp3 players to work on older head units

4.0 out of 5 stars Works very well - a bit of a fiddle to fit. 7 Jan. 2015

Works fine in Golf Mk 5. There is a choice of connectors amongst the set that connects the two big plugs (a male that could connect to either of two females) - connect black to black. The other choice is if there are problems (but I don' know what!). Instructions are poor but the big plugs are pretty self-explanatory. Getting it into the car is a fiddle as the dashboard centre must be dismantled (see Youtube videos for this). I used a longer audio cable than that supplied - 2 x phono to a jack socket that I soldered on the other end, then routed this cable to a bit of the panel just below and left of the radio. Use proper plastic levers and the correct torq screwdrivers when dismantling the dashboard to avoid damage (& work gently & slowly). Finally really pleased with the result: press CD twice, the device then routes in the audio (and the next time a single press of CD is enough). Overall worthwhile as I think the VW radio is very good. Ordinary CDs still play as normal.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful 11 Dec. 2014

After spending a lot of time getting my current stereo out and putting this product in, it didn't even work. The instructions are just pictures that don't help you at all. There is no writing explaining anything in the packaging so you have to figure it out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Golf MK 5 8 Jan. 2014
By Danny

I just got a Golf and the only thing I don't like about it is not being able to plug in my MP3. I quite like the factory stereo so I found out about this product and bought it. The instructions are truly awful but you can find plenty of installation instructions online, fitting it was a bit of a mare, I followed a guide online on removing the stereo and it can take a while. Once you've plugged it in comes the part of trying to find somewhere to put the wire, I chose the glove box as it was pretty much my only option. The product itself seems very good, the sound quality is great and I hope all will be well with it sat there behind the stereo. The RCA to 3.5mm jack could do with being longer, a lot longer. If you choose to thread the wire to the glove box you will only have a couple of centimetres to play with and your mp3/ipod will be dangling in your glove box so you have to get an extension cable if you want it to sit in your centre console.

All in all I'm pleased with it, does what I want but I'm giving it 4 stars due to the borderline useless wire length and because the instructions were created by a mentally incapacitated ape.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does what it says 16 Mar. 2013
So I was sick of FM transmitters and bored of writing endless CDs so as a pure lazy convience I brought this kit.
Opening the dash is a scary job but there are plenty of youtube videos, and I recommend you watch them a few times because you will have to (on the golf/jetta/Eos at least) remove a fair bit of dash and be very careful around your airbag sensor.

But the unit itself, works fine as you'd expect, you just press CD twice on your head unit and it belives that CD one of a multichanger is playing and this is whatever you have plugged in. Obviously no track names or any information, but the audio is clear as you would expect.

4.0 out of 5 stars Installed on Golf Mk5 Match 23 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase
I just installed the CTVVGX004 on my 2007 Golf, took about 60 mins, if I did it again it would take a lot less. The instructions are pretty simple, but don't cover removing any of the trim which is covered on various forums / youtube.

The main confusion for me was the black wire which when arrives is not connected to anything at one end. This wire must be connected to ground in the car, I ended up wedging it into the back of the RCD3000 radio between the metal plates as I couldn't undo the screws, a bit of a bodge, but I couldn't find anywhere else to put it.

The headphone jack was routed out of the side of the ash tray rather than the glove box so that I can have easy access to it, as the steering wheel controls are only able to control the volume.

The sound is pretty good.

Looked a bit cheap when I opened package, but I fitted it on my 08 VW Jettas RCD300 and it worked perfect good sound, 3.5 Jack a bit on the fiddly side but I can live with that.
