I really enjoyed this book, it is very well written and the story flowed really well. At times it was intense and the anticipation that was growing throughout the book was just spell binding and the story held my attention so much so, I read it in a day.
When Cole Benson takes over from his father as CEO of Benson industries Lucy Cleary did not expect him to be quite as ruthless, arrogant and cold - so unlike his father whom she had worked for previously. She is very good at her job and she loved it, but coming into work every morning to face Cole Benson and his abrupt manner was beginning to take it's toll. At times she hated him, but at times she was so attracted to him it was scary. He was one gorgeous, sexy hunk of a man, but he was her boss, and she was married. The build up to their relationship was a joy to experience and the author takes you on a journey of twists and turns, up's and downs, that at first you don't know what road it will take you down, and just when you think you have worked it all out, she flips it all over and deals the unexpected. There is lots of angst, lots of frustration, times that were sad and times when my heart felt full. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable book and recommended read!!
What caused the loss of a star is Lucy's constant, I'm sorry, I'll tell him soon. No no noooo girl. You either walk away or you do NOT step into an affair, simples. But sadly it never is simple. I wonder at how many readers end up feeling sorry for John? Man he was stuck in his own zone, anyone would feel not wanted after his treatment, but Lucy shoulda dealt with it, gone balls to the wall at him and got it sorted. But then we wouldn't have a story and let's face it, this book is a story... it's FICTION and therefore anything can go.
I got engrossed in this pretty quick and read it fast. I had a whole myriad of emotions going on, I hated her, I felt sorry for her, I liked her, I liked Cole, I hated Cole and wanted to punch him in the gonads, but I love that a book engages me, I can't fault Lisa and her penmanship for doing that. I disliked John and his indifference. So many things ran through my mind while reading this, brilliant love/hate read for sure!
I will definitely read more from the mind of this author, I connect with her prose and for the most part - wink - the story is damn fine. Less cheating next time though Lisa, I don't know if I can do another!☺
I received Conflicted to review, my reviews are my own and un-biased.
Lucy is a married to John. Working as an executive assistant for Jack Benson, Lucy loves her job. She works hard and puts her marriage problems down to both her and John working long hours. Trying to get John to see their marriage is crumbling, her jobs the only thing she looks forward to. When Jack decides to retire, leaving his son Cole to take over, Lucy is left trying to fight her attraction to her new boss.
Cole comes across as quite stroppy. He's arrogant, blunt and there were times my palm itched to slap him, even though I absolutely loved him. He insists on been called Mr Benson and makes it crystal clear he's only interested in his job. But he can only keep the charade going for so long.
Spending long hours together Lucy starts to see another side to Cole and the attraction grows. With Cole blowing hot and cold and John ignoring all her attempts to make their marriage work, Lucy finds herself more confused then ever.
I loved this book. It's angsty. It's full of sexual chemistry but the emotional heartache balances it out. An extremely well written romance that kept my interest from the first page to the last.
This book contains cheating and she's also married!! Cheating isn't a hard limit for me BUT cheating in marriage is a big no no, BUT omg this book!!! I was hooked from the first few pages, I love angst in a book and Conflicted certainly fed my addiction.
Lucy is unhappy in her marriage to John, their marriage seemed stale and was definitely in a rut, she did try on several occasions to get that spark back but all attempts failed, then enter her hot, demanding and completely arrogant boss Cole. She finds herself getting the hots for him, I mean, who wouldn't? He treats her so bad but we do find out why?!
I really felt like I shouldn't enjoy this book due to the taboo subject but I loved every single word written. The sexual chemistry was off the chart hot between Lucy and Cole, I liked the way the character development grew within the book and as usual Lisa Suzanne's writing was brilliant and I really wouldn't hesitate to recommend this author and her books.
