Designed to be used in the confessional, this app is a useful aid for any penitent. With a personalized examination of conscience for each user, password-protected profiles, and a step-by-step guide to the sacrament, this app invites Catholics to prayerfully prepare for and participate in the Rite of Penance. Individuals who have been away from the sacrament for some time will find Confession: A Roman Catholic App to be a useful and inviting tool.
The text of this app was developed in collaboration with the Rev. Thomas G. Weinandy, OFM, executive director of the Secretariat for Doctrine and Pastoral Practices of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and the Rev. Dan Scheidt, pastor of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Mishawaka, Ind. The app received an imprimatur from Bishop Kevin C. Rhodes of the Diocese of Fort Wayne--South Bend, Ind. It is the first known imprimatur to be given for an Android app.
A sad disappointment. In these times when Catholics need to be encouraged to return to the sacrament of reconciliation and to understand its significance in our spiritual life, what an opportunity missed! Some suggestions for improvement: some gospel references on which to meditate relating to the centrality of confession of sin and the universal need of forgiveness; a preparation section on the nature and seriousness of sin; the differences between mortal and venial sin; avoidance of occasions of sin; supernatural grace received from the sacrament; recommendations on frequency of using this sacrament. For the Christian, the ten commandments are nowhere near enough guidance on sin.......
While I sincerely doubt that I'd ever use this app in an actual confessional, it does have an excellent examination of conscience. I also appreciate it keeps track of the time since my last confession.
What is really great though is this app includes all the prayers needed to say the Holy Rosary, like the Apostle's Creed and Hail Holy Queen! It also contains several different Acts of Contrition.
My only complaint is that there's no way to make the font bigger. It is somewhat small for my tastes on the Kindle Fire.
Overall, this is a great app and I'm very pleased.
A wonderful aid for anyone, young or old preparing for Confession. Especially helpful for new or returning Catholics. Each person in the family can use it (each person has their own password) and it is private for each. The Examination Of Conscience, Confession Guide and Prayers are very helpful. You can take it with you to Confession (Reconciliation) if you need to and erase everything afterward. A must have on my list. I am so glad I found it!
3.0 out of 5 starsGood but needs more work/improvement.

This is a very good application and it looks are very appealing however, more work is necessary in its content. The examination of conscience needs to be more in depth and adult oriented. It is very good for a teenage as it is but it should be more challenging for those adults who had not go to confession in a long time.
I installed this on my Kindle Fire HD 8.9 and discovered that setting up a profile was a challenge because the dates were not displayed, only a + or - to blindly adjust it. That was quite a trick to figure out how to tap it, set it, check and adjust. The vocation setting is a nice touch and will probably cover most situations, but not all. There is no deacon vocation setting or any way to merge multiple vocations. For instance, we have some married priests in the Catholic Church who came from other faith traditions, we have married and single deacons for whom the ability to choose one or more vocational settings would be useful. Other than these recommended improvements, I still recommend the app.
UPDATE: 4-10-15: I decided to load this onto my iPhone and found the current version fixes all my complaints, including expanded vocation options that include single and married deacon and seminarian. Well done!
