For me this is the best of flower identification guides. It is one that I have grown up with and love dearly for its wonderful illustrations and precision. A book for life and to cherish.

An excellent, classic text on the British Flora, beautifully drawn and carefully categorised so that even amateur botanists can easily find the plant they wish to identify.

This book is the best book I've found for British flowers, clear drawings of many plants on one page with descriptions opposite make it easy for looking through, comparison and identification. Indices of both common English and Latin names. At about 9"x7"x1" it's quite big and there are few English names on the plates (they are in bold in text) but these are small drawbacks for such a wonderful book. I can't praise it enough and I recommend it to anybody who has an interest in British, Irish or European flowers. I've found it far better than any other book I've used. I only wish there were other books as good for other countries as well, a real gem.

A very useful reference source for all the weeds and wild flowers that grow in the British countryside..Beautifully illustrated. One of the best of its kind ever published. Surely worth a few pounds? Makes a nice present to a countrylover too.

Only proviso was that the cover was a bit messed up and a few notes inside, but that doesn't matter so much,I guess.

I love this book. I had one 40 years ago that fell apart so I sent for another on Amazon. I then found a friend who, like me, grew up abroad and did not know the names of the wild flowers so I bought another. I have now purchased four more for friends. They are all second hand in various states of repair but worth it for the pictures and information. I even bought on for the local church to help visitors recognise the flowers in the nature garden at the back.

I discovered this book in my teens and have used it consistently ever since.
The exquisite detail of the author's artwork makes it possible to identify plants at different stages of growth, with the accompanying description of habitat, time of flowering etc.,reinforcing the pictures.
Division of the drawings into plant families saves time when seeking an unknown "daisylike" or "clover-leafed" specimen, and the use of botanical (Latin) names alongside common names aids the gardener and herbalist,or anyone who wants to avoid expensive or painful mistakes in identification. There are drawings of shrubby and grassy plants as well as flowers. Seriously educational!

This purchase was very good value for money. As a second hand book I was told there was some discolouration on the spine which there was. However this discolouration was minimal and the interior of the book had no defects at all.
I am most pleased with it.
