This for me is probably my favourite Cure album. It sees them in a frantic & energetic mood and the setlist is basically a greatest hits up to the album The Top. Later live albums Show and Paris never recreated the energy and sheer sense of being up for it that was evident on this recording. If you like early Cure this is a must have.

Released in October 1984, this live album includes their best songs from the previous 5 years. Shake Dog Shake and Give it up are performed in a much heavier and gritter style form the studio version, A Forest has an extended beginning and end and their new version of Killing an Arab proves how far the band has progressed by this stage. The Cure were already transforming from a small indie band from Crawley to an international sell-out Arena group. The album is an excellent example of their live performances of the time. The original cassette release also included a bonus album containing more live recordings, promos and demo music.

Really a high water mark for pre-MTV Cure and a decent round off of the period before the arrival of Boris Williams. I'm loath to give any album five stars as that implies perfection, so four'll have to do.
There will always be complaints from completists about the absence of certain tracks (Boys don't cry), but as a representation of a Cure live show this is pretty good.
The unsung hero of this album is the drummer Andy Anderson, who is generally seen as a footnote in the band's history. His performance on "A Forest", while straight foward, provides a perfect backing for Robert's guitar and he seems to have a perfect feel for the songs. For want of a better word, he actually makes the band swing.
Highly recommended

Here we have a brilliant Cure live recording that captures the true essence of the the band before they became semi-mainstream hit machine.

I love nothing more than playing this album on a cold, wet and windy evening whilst nibbling on some chocolate and drinking a cup of tea. In fact, I might just go and put it on again now despite the fact the weather is not optimal for my previously mentioned listening state.

Mind, most self respecting Cure fans already own this album so for the rest of you, click order right now!

The first and the best live album by The Cure, this contains a diverse mixture of tracks recorded at various venues on The Top Tour in 1984.

I'm not usually a big fan of live albums but this really manages to capture the sound of the band and is a great selection of songs in it's own right.

Very Highly Recommended.

A Must Buy.

The Cure were the best of the UK Alt Rock groups that made the dreadful 1980's worth listening through, they had many highs and this record is one of the highest.
