The book seems to make a big deal out of straightforward topics and I did not expect the presentation to be so literally childish. In an attempt to be simple I think the book defeats its own purpose and seems to complicate ideas.

ok a slightly different format and uses examples of fictional narrative to explain computational concepts... Some examples work better than others :-)

I got this for my youmg daughter who I am teaching Python see "Python for Kids", that includes Turtle Graphics. This book is a fun introduction to more general computational science.

The book is mostly a collection of short explanations of various computer science principles - mostly algorithms. Most of the explanations are really good, and uses metaphors from the fairytale (or medieval quest) to help the reader understand them, rather than resorting to computer code and mathematics. That is a good thing, and I think that the chapters taken individually could really help when learning computer science (or help me as a teacher of computer science, to explain things to the students).
The fairytale element isn't as pervasive as I could have wished for - actually I would have liked the book better if there was more to the storyline about the princess and her quest, and perhaps a little fewer algorithms to explain.
But it certainly has a lot of quite good metaphors - and I would recommend it to anyone looking for non-mathematical explanations to computer science principles. Don't read the whole book as a story, but select a chapter here or there to learn more!

A nicely written story that puts computational thinking into relatable contexts (for those of us who relate to magical quests anyway...)

I have recommended this book to half a dozen friends so far and even bought a copy for a lad down the road who is interested in learning to program. The ideas in the books are illustrated in a really clear and engaging way. Plus the overall structure of the books has been carefully thought out to advance both the student's understanding of computational thinking and keep the reader engaged with the rather humorous journey of discovery by the Princess. I sincerely hope that this book will help to inspire new generations of software developers.

I have used this to support learning in computer science and encouraged students to read it. Some of the ideas are quite advanced but it is a fun way to learn and introduce ideas. One of the students intended to use it with a young nephew and I intend to read the story with my grandchildren.

Bought to get an insight into this tricky subject and found that it was presented in a way that made for an enjoyable read. I even understood some of it.
