Product Description

About the Author

Audrey was born about two hundred years too late. She wants to belong to a time when men were men and women were dressed in gowns and could float, simper and sigh. In the real world she has always longed to write, writing a full manuscript when she was fourteen years old. Work, marriage and children got in the way as they do and it was only when an event at work landed her in hospital that she decided to take stock. One Voluntary Redundancy later, she found that the words and characters came to the forefront and the writing began in earnest. So, although she is at home more these days, the housework is still neglected and meals are still late on the table, but she has an understanding family, who usually shake their heads at her and sigh. That is a sign of understanding, isn’t it?

A well written story with believable characters, storyline and period details. The characters all spoke with early 19th century voices and behaved as one would expect in that time period. Ms Harrison's writing is very reminiscent of Lizzie Church who conveys similar experiences with her books. A well deserved 4 stars.

After reading the first few pages of this book I thought I knew how the story would play out but was surprised at the twists that the author has put in which proved me wrong. Her writing style reminds me of Julia Quinn who is one of my favourite authors and I had difficulty in putting the book down as I wanted to see what would happen next. It was a light, interesting, addictive read unlike some Regency style authors who create a very heavy story and vocabulary where you spend most of your time trying to translate what they mean and don't get the same enjoyment out of. I think this author has a lot of potential and look forward to reading her future books.

Really enjoyed reading this book. Usually read thrillers, but decided on a change and am surprised how much I loved this book. The characters are very believable and you get caught up in their lives. Also nice to read something set so long ago reminds you how lucky we are today.

A nice story, with good period detail. I was a bit surprised that it was supposed to have been re-edited for typos, it still seemed to have some errors, as far as I know there is no such word as 'nomatter', yet it appears several times in the text! However, at least there were no Americanisms and the dialogue was fairly good for the period. I would question whether or not a lady would travel unchaperoned with a single gentleman at that time and that her brother would allow it, but I suppose that is a minor criticism. All in all it was an interesting read and kept my interest. I liked the hero. Some pedant, in one of the reviews, banged on about the grammar, but who cares? People who are good at grammar often lack the imagination to write a good story. I believe Virginia Woolf was bad at spelling, well, if I could write 'Mrs Dalloway', I wouldn't care a damn for my spelling!

I have read a few of Audrey Harrison's books and this one did not disappoint me. A very good storyline and a such a lovely read. If you love your historical novels then this is one I could recommend by this author and I think deserves the five stars that I have given it.

I enjoyed the way in which the emotions and thoughts were described in this story. Gripping, emotional and heartbreaking. Couldn't put the book down. My favourite character was Isabelle who stood up for what she believed in. Very strong willed with her dry sense of humour. Brilliant read.

An absolutely amazing piece of writing which kept me riveted until the end. The characters, places, and events were described clearly and it was not until the final chapter that all was revealed. Brilliant I absolutely loved it
