When the product description is 'perfect I do not expect that a third of the discs will need a thorough cleaning before they will play.
Edit : Have now got as far as series 3. The state of some of the discs is appalling, latest disc was unwatchable and irrecoverable. This is turning into an expensive waste of time and money.

i really liked being able to watch the entire series (all 7 of them) at my convenience. It is an added bonus to be able to store them in the coffret, enabling me to keep them together. Its a good series and offers a slight glimmer into what life at the White House could be like. There is humour and the storylines are mostly good and all entertain.

Damn you Amazon for not allowing 10 stars! Along with "the Wire" by far the greatest television series of this or for that matter any other decade. The scripts are sharp enough to cut diamonds. The characters are the most memorable to hit the screens in years. With Martin Sheen, Richard Schiff, Alison Janney, Rob Lowe, Alan Alda et al you have the strongest actors on the box and stalwarts of many great American drama's. There are also occasions when Aaron Sorkin's scripts are transcendent and scale the heights. Check, out episodes like "In Excelsis Deo" "The Supremes" or "Two Cathedrals" in particular for some of the greatest pieces of modern television over the past 30 years. Its a shame that Barrack Obama didn't utilise Sorokin to write his inauguration speech it would have been much better than the flat offering he gave and could have been up there with Kennedy's or Roosevelt. As it stands The West Wing, The Wire, The Soprano's, Six Feet Under etc are all evidence that while the American century may be over they still dominate the planet in terms of brilliant dramas.

The delivery was quick, and great product, aside from that I have two of the bonus DVDs and no series 5. It was a gift so didn't realise until after the returns window - so even though the product is faulty, they won't swap it.

OK, first up in the interests of full disclosure, Martin Sheen once said Hello to me in a doorway in a restaurant here in Craggy Island, and he was very cheerful about it, so I would be well disposed to a favourable review of his show. Then I met him again last summer and he signed my box set, and I don't think he'd put his name to something that he didn't approve of.
But here's the thing - this is epic. No explosions*, not a robot in site. About 150 episodes on 4 dozen discs I guess and you don't see it going past you. I bought it because my brother always raved about it, and I figured I would be spending more time at home in a bid to save money.
There's probably 120 hours or so of telly here, and most of it happens either in 3 or 4 locations or when people are walking between the 3 or 4 locations. Nearly everything that happens in it happens only in dialogue between the main characters, usually with stories that arc over multiple episodes and between series, while every individual episode has its own little plots and stories to play out.
Very addictive, because of great writing and acting making characters you quickly start to care about, you keep on playing the next episode or feeding the next disc into your machine to find out what happens next.
In the meantime, it gives you a great understanding of how the USA works - what the principles are supposed to be behind the constitution, how different political parties interpret them, various protocols and contingency plans for the things that happen - intentionally and otherwise - and the limitations too (like who really is in charge of the world's most powerful nation when the president has an operation).
TFO
*Not actually true, there is one explosion and the odd gunshot and at one point a character rides a bicycle into a tree, but I won't spoil it for you by telling you when or why.

I have previously purchased seasons one to four from Amazon and looking back, I spent more on season one and two than I did on this whole box set.
The West Wing has to be the finest piece of television of this decade. I have been trying to find a way of going to the gym and enjoying myselfat the same time and as I hate exercise this has been a real challenge. As the father of two young kids, I never get a minute to myself so I have uploaded the whole of the west wing on to my MP four player.
I am now able to do 42 minutes of exercise without looking up from my Archos and actually now look forward to going to the gym.
The £45 spent is worth every penny.

There are some great reviews for this wonderful TV series already so I won't repeat what they say except they are all absolutely correct - this is a top quality show. I bought the first two seasons myself, got the third for Christmas from my daughter and rented the fourth from my local library (£2 for the week!).
On seeing the great price Amazon are selling the complete box set for, I simply had to have it. Having sold the three I already owned on eBay, I seem to have outlaid very little for such a lovely package. One thing to note: The box set is not as wide as the picture suggests on Amazon. It is taller. Perhaps the picture shows a version of the set containing the fold out style individual box sets, but the one delivered contained all the DVDs in slimline cases. As it takes up less shelf space, this is actually a bonus. Go on. Treat yourself...

The best box set ever. Incredibly well written and simply brilliant. The dialogue is not only entertaining but educational too. As a Londoner I gained so much inisight into how the US political system works (or sometimes doesn't!).
