We knew his famous poem about the conversation of the cows in the water-meadow but that was all. Since we bought this, three of us, (all over thirty), have sat about a night or two reading aloud and laughing a lot -- also thinking, because some of Reeves' poems are truly moving, even tragic at times. Some have a flavour of Lewis Carroll and some foreshadow Monty Python. It's a great shame that he isn't better known and we hope his work will come back into fashion soon. It's certainly poetry to read aloud with friends and family, sharing the book round... Reeves makes you shake your head with wry recognition, at some of his characters. Cutesy-sentimental this verse is not.
Lovely book of poetry - the "for children" label need not be limiting, as we are all children - nonsense verse and romantic lullabies, mystical creatures and the joys and fears of everyday lives. Highly recommended!
