I've been suggesting to buy this book to all of my friends that wants to learn C++.
It is full of working examples, and it is very clear.
In my opinion this is THE book to start with if you
want to learn C++.
Then of course go ahead with meyers books and lipman inside C++ object model.
Simple, clear and complete explanations on topics so seemingly difficult to
understand in the other C++ books, packed with practical and runnable (!)
programs that make things easy to understand, many hints to avoid errors,
end of chapter exercises and solutions...
In all, a book that is worth every penny!
I am enjoying the book thoroughly and give it my highest recommendation.
