About the Author

Perhaps the most widely respected comic writer of the modern era, Alan Moore's contribution to the comics' industry is incalculable. Co-creator of some of 2000 AD's most popular series, including The Ballad of Halo Jones and DR & Quinch, he also has numerous Future Shocks and Time Twisters to his name.Outside of 2000 AD, Moore is best known for his work on the epic comic series, V For Vendetta and Watchmen, the latter of which redefined the superhero genre in 1986. Both have been adapted into big-budget Hollywood movies by Warner Brothers, along with two other Moore books, From Hell and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

It's rare to see comics supremo Alan Moore exercise his funny bone, but on the rare occassions that he does the results are usually hilarious, and these stories of two alien delinquents with a destruction addiction are no exception. Comparable to his Bojeffries Saga, DR and Quinch is just pure, ludicrous FUN, from start to finish. Alan Davis was a great choice for art duties; with a love of detail but an eye for cartoony excess, he's clearly having as much fun as Moore is here - when the pair gleefully have DR and Quinch blow up planet Earth and everyone on it a mere six pages in, you know that all bets are off. The duo join the army, go to prison, fall in love, befriend a psychopath, and start a Scout troop - but it's when they go to Hollywood that the strip really burns a permanent place into your affections (most likely with a laser-guided anti-grav thermo-beam); this five part mini-epic is worth the cover price alone. 'Mind the Oranges, Marlon!'

The 2012 Rebellion edition is a really nice package, with a brand new cover by Davis, a bunch of covers, pin-ups and script pages in the back, and the 'DR and Quinch Agony pages' reproduced in their original colour. The only reason it doesn't get the full five stars is because in places some of the reproduction is not as good as it could be (particularly a notable few pages on DR and Quinch get drafted) and the strip had such a criminally short run that the fun all ends far too soon!

One of the great 2000ad strips ruined by a terrible reprint that loses all the detail of the original artwork. Avoid this and buy the earlier version.

Brilliantly funny - and very silly - the adventures of the revolting Waldo "D.R." ("Diminished Responsibility") Dobbs and Ernest Quinch represent some of the best stories of their type from the early days of "2000AD". Moore's scripts are perfectly realised by Alan Davies' art as our "heroes" progress from the throwaway protagonists of a one-off "Time Twister" to fully-fledged stars. With digs at teen romance, the Vietnam War, celebrity and Hollywood (particularly apt in retrospect, considering Moore's now legendary contempt for the movies industry), the pair battle petty bureaucats, psychotic ex-girlfiends and deranged war veterans in universe dotted with some very familiar faces (the Marlon Brando cameo is now legendary).
A great collection of stories by a writer and artist on absolutely top form - an "must" purchase!

Alan Moores funniest writing. More famous for 'From Hel', and 'Watchmen', DR & Quinch was one of Alan Moores earliest works (1983!), and remains his funniest writing. Aided by the sublime comic art of Alan Davids, this is a team-up that has rarely been matched.
In these pages you will find merciless skits of 50's be-bop, the Vietnam war, and the Hollywood dream, topped off with lashings of childish glee at comic book violence.
This is a book to be bought & re-read. I've owned the originals for almost two decades, and they still make me laugh out load. Enjoy.

D.R. (it stands for 'Diminished Responsibility') and Quinch ("My psychiatrist says I'm a psychotic deviant. But that doesn't mean I'm a bad person, right?") is just about the funniest thing to come out of 2000AD. It's totally original humour with great storylines. If you like the lighter side of 2000AD you'll love this.

Hilarious anarchic mayhem from the mind of a young Alan Moore, probably the funniest comic strip I've ever read. Fans of 2000AD and British cyberpunk comics should buy this immediately. Don't expect a sprawling dystopian epic or anything, this is the comic equivelant of 'Bottom' and 'The Young Ones' mixed with some weapons of mass-destruction and a complete disregard for life of any kind. Pick it up if any of that sounds appealing to you.

Probably the only Alan Moore 2000AD strips that I really didn't appreciate at the time but re-reading them now I had a blast. Huge fun now that I can appreciate the satire and references going on that went completely over my head at the time (in my own defence I was barely a teenager when I first read them!)

Funny and irreverant. I used to dip into 200AD but didnt remember this, it doesnt matter though as the stories stand on their own merit. I've handed this to friends who dont like comics and they still get into it!
