I purchased this book prior to a London to Paris bike ride. I was new to cycling and the tips and detailed information in this book prepared me to cover 300+ miles in 3 days within 5 weeks of first getting on a bike in 20 years! I now keep the book close by to refer back to the book as and when needed!

I'm just about to do my first century at the advanced age of 59. This book has gently, and with a subtle sense of humour, taken me through all the steps I need to consider wrt equipment and all the issues of training and nutrition. The authors have tackled thorny problems ranging from motivation and visualisation to sore bottoms with the same practical attention to detail. It's also very well written and intelligently structured. So far I have taken on board all the advice and tips and I have reached a point where I know I can do the ride comfortably, safely and without spending a fortune on "specialist" gear. I honestly can't praise it enough.

An excellent book covering all aspects of long distance riding. Aimed at the American market so only 4 stars but mercifully free of the 'be true to yourself' stuff.

I brought this book six months after taking up cycling, i followed the training plan for cycling 50 miles and then six months later I completed my first century ride. This book is used in conjunction with a heart rate monitor and a cycle computer so you'll need to use these (quite often sold together in the same computer) but follow the training plans and you'll start to feel your fitness improving - riding faster for less effort. If the weather is bad then I jump on the turbo trainer so i can continue to keep the training going. This book is a few years old now but is still relevant and is written by someone who is experienced in the subject. Well worth buying if you want to know how to ride far, highly recommended !

Exactly what I was looking for to help me train for a better century and my first double century.
The book reaffirms many of my own thoughts and presents new training techniques, diet, fitness and all other matters relating to long distance rides.
Excellently written with some witty moments from the authors. If you want to be ready for a long distance cycling event, you had better read this book.

Having got into cycling last year, I bought this book for some general tips on how to improve and things to be aware of. It fit the bill perfectly. It was informative and easy to understand without being patronising. I have certainly improved after reading it and I've now lent it out to other cycling friends who also love it.
