Hardback, 128 pages, comes in a royal blue tactile sleeve richly illustrated, fastened, Inside this sleeve along with the actual guide book is large map of Ankh-Morpork, but look on the reverse side, and there you will have a beautiful illustrated aerial view of the city, richly detailed with every house, guild, notary buildings in situ, its beautiful to admire and a magnifying glass is a must! The guide-book itself is filled with whimsical advertisements, Half Medieval half Georgian flavor and are a delight to peruse. Inside the book starts easy, the currency exchange rates for example, landmarks, the do's and donts of the local Laws (?!) Acommodations, food and drink, communications, descriptions of the Guilds with illustrations of most of the Guild Houses, Walking tours, and a guide to the Shades district of Ankh-Morpork. This is most definately a bonus for the bookshelf, Terry Pratchett has produced a beautiful volume with rich detailing and written in the style we all love so much, its deserves great time to study this book, but also you will time and time again delve into it. A worthy addition to the Discworld library, but also it stands in its own right as a treasure. Very highly recommended!

Firstly, this book and its accompanying large-scale map is written in English rather than Morporkian so don't worry about translations and the like. A beautifully illustrated book with copious detail, plenty of laughs and astounding accuracy is what you get for your AM$ (thoughtfully converted by Amazon into GB£) inside a matching binder cover with an elasticated closure.

But wait? What is this carbuncle on the cover of the book itself? A sticker advertising an IPad app soon to be released. It fits the book like a baseball cap would look right on the Mona Ogg. Fortunately the serious Pratchett collector can peel this off with a little effort not to rip the beautifully tooled cover.

This really is like the Yellow Pages of the City of Ankh-Morpork, listing businesses and establishments together with detailed placement on a large fold-out map (with an artists impression of a Google Disk type snapshot from above). Obviously done with huge amounts of loving care and slavish attention to the Discworld canon, it is probably the best Artefact I've yet purchases. Certainly both collectable and readable, and it looks every bit the part with that quality binding and jacket to hold the map and book. Well worth the cash and a delight to read.

I am a big Terry Pratchett fan but I usually wouldn't have bought something like this. I am so pleased that I did. The writing is superb, there's a lot of new material, but the book is written in small sections so its ideal to dip in and out of. You can see Terry having fun here. There's more comedy in this book than many recent diskworld novels. The illustrations are lush, the fake adverts are hilarious but the map and city scape are awesome. Every house in ankh-morpork is drawn in great detail and every street is named. This is a thing of real quality. So much work has gone into this. Can't recommend this highly enough.

This book is everything I had expected, and more. It comes in a nice slipcase and contains a guide of the city structured like a directory of businesses and streets, each with their own address and a few curiosities, and peppered throughout with mock-Victorian ads and illustrations which only make it more beautiful to see and read. But the jewel of the set must be the incredibly accurate map, which constitutes a serious improvement over the old "Streets of Ankh-Morpork". Behind the map is a bird's eye view of the city which is simply spectacular, each house completely detailed. You could pore over this one for hours on end with a magnifying glass. If you like maps and detailed settings, definitely buy this. If you're a Discworld fan and you haven't bought this, what's wrong with you? :)

The book comes in a high quality hardback, with a large, removable, doublesided fold out map in the back. It has an elasticated blue thread which pulls from the back around to wrap around the front cover to hold it shut, which is a really nice touch.

The writing is in clear sections, and for a book not much more than 120 pages long, is FULL of information. The old style newspaper layout immediately sets you in mind of the Ankh-Morpork times, and the beautiful cover makes you think of an encyclopedia.

I was shocked at the sheer amount of info given, in true Ankh-Morpork style, and written in Terry Pratchett's classic humour. If you want a book to take on holiday with you, this probably won't fit, but if you have just finished a few of the Discworld books and want something related to that wonderful world, you'll be in stitched with this and the other recent Discworld add on, Turtle Recall.

Great Fun, no discworld fan should be without it.

Having said that, there is rather too much self-indulgent laziness in the multiple pages of spoof adverts (which add little or nothing) and we could have done with a lot more articles about the underlying structures, institutions and soi-disant "rules" which purportedly obtain in A-M; much more about the University, the Watch, the Patriarch and so forth could have been so easily and wittily expounded to the improvement of the whole.

In sum, it's very good as far as it goes, but it could have been really great, so a bit of a shame, really, but still worth having.
