'The Compassionate Samurai' has that very American style of anecdotal stories to illustrate each point. It also seems to be carrying on the tradition of the American Dream in which we can all make good and make our fortunes and it is our own lack of energy, self-belief etc which is to blame if we don't. If you can cope with this kind of style it is worth reading.
The other major area of discomfort I have with this book is that it is aimed at success in business and whilst Brian Klemmer does from time to time suggest you may aim at a different kind of success the majority of his prose talks of making money. He has a very materialistic outlook and whilst he advocates helping others, the main way he sees of doing this is by making your fortune so you have plenty to give away.
So I think you need to read this book with a critical eye and avoid buying into his underlying value system. Then you can take what is useful and inspiring from it. It is a book that may motivate you and give you a boost of confidence and energy to try out some changes in your life. The last chapter has practical exercises for bringing the qualities of a 'compassionate samurai' into your life ( eg. contribution and focus). These are useful although I think it would have been better if they had been integrated into the earlier chapters of the book as each quality was described.

Having read Compassionate Samurai several times now i felt compelled to attend one of his seminars. The excellent contents of the book were further impacted by the seminar. Read this book ONLY if you want to never be, think or live the same way again. Its that powerful.

I recently attended one of Brian's seminars and rate him as one of the best motivational speakers that I've ever heard. Brian specialises in helping people and corporations to make massive changes in a small amount of time. His book can do the same for you.

This is a truly excellent book for anyone who wants to create a 'better life'. I have always been drawn to the Samurai as good role models for both individuals and for society as a whole.

Mr Klemmer's book takes numerous aspects of the "Way of the Samurai" and makes them ideas that you can apply and use in your life. This book can help you to stop living as a member of the 'herd' and start being a real and independent person with a strong and ethical code.

Mr Klemmer cleverly bridges the gap that people think exists between being a warrior and having compassion. In fact you are left with a very clear understanding that the two in fact go hand in hand-only the truly brave and heroic can have genuine compassion.

A great read and a life changing book! Grab a copy today!!

This is a very thought provoking, challenge-to-the core book. It challenged my ecision making, my quality of life (which is a choice...) and my generally attitude towards everyday life.

A great author and a phenomenal speaker is Mr Klemmer.
