The Company of Animals
Way back in 1979 Dr Roger Mugford (now a world renowned animal psychologist) founded The Company of Animals as a vehicle to sell his inventions.
The Company is based on a 100 acre working farm in Surrey (England) and is just minutes away from the M25 and M3 with strategic connections to Heathrow and Gatwick airports. The site is also home to the Training and Behaviour Centre, which was also founded by Roger in 1979. The Training and Behaviour Centre is now regarded as one of the best in the country, specialising in all levels of dog training and offering behaviour consultations on veterinary referral as well as resolving legal issues about pets, in and out of court. This gives The Company Of Animals the unique advantage of being able to constantly research and develop new products to help resolve pet-related behaviour and training problems, as well as having a great base in which to test new designs and principles of animal training.
The primary drive for our company has always been to develop products that help owners and their pets find an enriched life and to improve animal welfare. The first and most famous product to be developed was the HALTI. Designed and developed by Roger, the HALTI was the first ever canine headcollar and has gone on to be a world favourite.
Today COA has suppliers, distributors and partners in over 60 different countries.
We believe that our products must improve the wellbeing of pets as well as helping their owners. For example, the HALTI Headcollar was designed to give owners effective control when walking their dogs without causing pain or damage to the dog's delicate throat area. The steering action of the HALTI is so effective that it led to the development of the HALTI Harness, which works on the same principle of front control, but from the chest.

The Original & Still The Best
What is a HALTI Headcollar?
The HALTI stops dogs from pulling by steering the head so the body has to follow. It was invented in 1979 by Dr Roger Mugford and is approved and recommended by vets and canine professionals worldwide.
How does it work?
Its unique patented design works by gently directing the dog’s head, steering him into the desired position, just as a headcollar works to steer a horse.
The HALTI makes training and behaviour modification of dogs practical and safe. It can be used in a number of ways: either as a passive means to simply stop dogs pulling or as an active training aid. Millions have been sold worldwide to grateful owners of pulling dogs.
Choice of colour
HALTI Headcollar Padded
The HALTI Headcollar Padded has a leather strip on the noseband for extra comfort.
HALTI Safety Link
Additional Safety Links can be purchased separately. These are available in 2 sizes:
Small: for HALTI Headcollar sizes 0-2
Large: for HALTI Headcollar sizes 3-5
Time should be taken when accustoming a dog to the HALTI, so that he has a positive association with it. Initially place the noseband flat in your hand and feed the dog treats, so that he is happily putting his nose through it. When he accepts it, the neck section can be secured so it’s snug but not too tight.
On a correctly fitted HALTI, the noseband naturally sits half way down the nose and away from the eyes. When you release pressure on the chin strap, make sure the dog can fully open his mouth without restriction.
When introducing the HALTI, continual praise and reward using treats is recommended so wearing the HALTI becomes a positive experience. Refer to the instruction manual for more information on how to do this. Never leave the HALTI on an unsupervised dog as he may chew it.

Simply loops round the strap of the head collar, then a trigger hook attaches to the D-ring of the dog's collar. Very pleased with this and have bought a few to supplement the variety of Gencon and Softex harnesses we have.
He hasn't slipped his head collar with me, but I can walk him with the peace of mind knowing I have a back up there to keep him from running off and getting hit by a car if he does manage to slip the head collar off of his nose. I attach this link to my lead, NOT my halti, and then clip it to his collar every time we go out for a walk. That way, my lead is attached to 2 parts of him.
However, I ordered the Halti head collar at the same time and mine came with the Link provided, so this item turned out to be surplus. Some suppliers provide the collar with the link and some without, so review the Spec carefully before you order.
Having said that, I've not been impressed with the Halti head collar as a training aid, but that's another story.
So its a relief that I can buy it separately to the entire halti, especially as I use the halti optifit which is more expensive.
