Excellent little book that makes a lovely read with some intelligent information that goes quite a way beyond what you can read on the internet. Its a hardback with thick leaf pages and a nice clear black text so is easy to read. There is a good foreward and a short good/bad companion table at the back for quick browsing.
I have an allotment and built my second year planting plan from the information a gleaned from this book and all is going splendidly well so far. I have my cabbages and cauliflower planted next to a Tansy/Borage/Hyssop block combination and as expected, the Cabbage root fly has left my cauliflower alone and my cabbages are completely ignored by the cabbage white butterfly. I have nasturtians interplanted with my cabbages too and a few African marigolds dotted inbetween everything and not only does my plot look very healthy, but I have a very busy little eco system in place this year. Last year, my plot was barren and miserable. Its been truly amazing how much of a difference this little book has made for me.
A highly recommended read and if you put half of what you learn into practice you'll go far. Well worth it.

In an age of increasing hostility towards chemical control of the food we eat, "Companion Planting" is the ideal guide to working with nature, to produce healthy and bountiful crops. There is something fascinating about companion planting - it is immensely enjoyable to be able to outwit one's enemies with simple, tried-and-tested methods. More and more gardeners are recognising the good sense of working with nature instead of trying to club it into submission.Entertaining and often anecdotal, the snippets of wisdom in this book are arranged alphabetically, allowing the reader to easily search for a particular plant or garden pest. In many cases the author offers a method for encouraging a healthy crop or discouraging a nuisance to the gardener. Her summary of good and bad garden companions is a useful quick reference tool for gardeners planting beds or containers of vegetables and herbs.

Paid £6.39 for the book. Which is fine but the £2.00 sticker on the book once delivered made me a little salty and amused, hense the 2 stars. Interesting little book.

A replacement for a 'borrowed' copy, I use this as a planting reference, although there are one or two omissions, but still and excellent little book for handy tips

Valuable information for everyone. If you grow vegetables or flowers, this book is a "must-read" for you. It's easy to use - just look up your plant and the book will give you a list of friendly plant companions and as a good measure also gives you a list of plants not to grow nearby. If you can only afford to buy one gardening book, this is probably it.

I am enjoying COMPANION PLANTING,and look forward to trying out the various 'companions' in planting for my garden in the future to save time and effort. Who would have thought that plants could look after each otheR! Now I must look out for some ladybirds to eat the green & black fly bugs. mabel farr.

I bought this for my friend who grows vegetables for restaurants and has many books on gardening but she loves this little book, it is full of old fashioned wisdom and she is using the advice and having good results, even down to Fennel seeds in dogs baskets to deter fleas! it is presented in alphabetical order which makes it easy to find the relevant information, real little gem and excellent value for money.

It is an ok book, its informative and has pretty diagrams and a chart at the back. It is a little sparse on information though. OK for quick reference but I expected it to be a bit more informative, detailed and a lot more examples of plants.
