Product Description

Germany released, PAL/Region 0 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), German ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), Italian ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), Spanish ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), ANAMORPHIC WIDESCREEN (1.85:1), SPECIAL FEATURES: Interactive Menu, Scene Access, Trailer(s), SYNOPSIS: Lewis Collins is back to leading mercenaries on the move in Southeast Asia. This time the cast is unusually good including Lee Van Cleef, Brett Halsey (Cop Game), Romano Puppo (Robowar), Mike Monty (Raiders of Atlantis), Bobby Rhodes (The Great Alligator), etc. Anyway, Van Cleef has Collins go on some random mission to locate a disc with all sorts of valuable crazy intelligence data on it. It just happens that Donald Pleasence, a random government official, hires another mercenary-for-hire Manfred Lehman to tag along and make sure the data ends up in the right hands. Van Cleef isn't taking any chances, and since he is crooked and murders Collins's other bosses quickly, he places Romano Puppo in the group as well to make sure the operation runs smoothly. Collins may not be too expressive but at least he seems to figure out quickly who's out to get him, so the mission continues with lots of double-crosses, twists and turns, and of course lots of explosions. ...The Commander (1988) ( Der Commander ) ( Il Triangolo della paura )

Major Colby is hired by Col Mazzarini to retrieve a data disc containing some highly important information. Mazzarini however sends along one of his own soldiers to make sure the disc doesn't fall into the wrong hands no matter the cost.

This was the third and final film in Antonio Margheriti's jungle trilogy and in my opinion it is probably the least impressive of the three.

As expected with vertually the same cast, same story and same locations the films were going to get a bit repetitive.

Lewis Collins is good as usual as Major Colby. Lee Van Cleef, who was missing from the second film is back this time as the rich villain who sends Colby and his men on the suicidal mission. I did however wish Klaus Kinski had returned but we do get brief appearances from Donald Pleasence, John Steiner and Brett Halsey.

I was however surprised to see that their wasn't half as much action as in the previous two films so I presume the budget for this was smaller as at the end when all the tankers blow up it was stock footage from Wild Geese. The end shoot-out though is worth seeing.

Eloy once again compose the music and its pretty poor as in Code Name Wild Geese but the flute music is actually not that bad.

Overall a average film that is vertually identical to the other two.

GREAT DVD QUALITY.

Like Commando Leopard this one is no way near as good as Codename: Wild Geese
Even in a so bad it's good way The Commander just takes too long to get going and dosen't quite capture the same magic as the first film in the Lewis Collins Macaroni Combat trilogy!!!
You may get a few good chuckles out of it but Codename: Wild Geese is a much better B-Movie action experience all round
(However be sure to get the uncut version of Codename: Wild Geese as mentioned in my review of that film as the Arrowdrome version is a trimmed down version)

There is something strangely satisfying about Lewis Collins' short career in third-rate, badly dubbed action movies. Legend has it that after his turn as an undercover SAS tough in Who Dares Wins he was auditioned for the role of Bond but was considered too rough around the edges. Subsequently his career in movies declined but not before he completed the holy trinity of macaroni combat films helmed by the great Anthony M. Dawson AKA Antonio Margheriti. In The Commander he is in great company with the likes of Lee Van Cleef sleepwalking through his usual schtick and Donald Pleasance hamming like his livelihood depended upon it. Compared to the earlier efforts Codename: Wildgeese and Commando Leopard the cast may miss the demented spark of Klaus Kinski but nevertheless the action is entertaining, the helicopters exploding and Collins is suave and rugged by equal measure throughout. Lovely stuff.

final of the 3 films lewis collins made with antonio margheriti some good action and the acting is much better than the previous 2 films with lee van cleef playing the villian and english actor john steiner playing french baddie daclud and also with donald pleasance and manfred lehman.i would recommend all 3 to collectors of cult films as margheriti did the special effects on stanley kubricks 2001 uncredited and sergio leones a fistful of dynamite.

No one disobeys The Commander.

The third in the triptych of Italian jungle combat adventures directed by Antonio Margheriti (under the pseudonym Anthony M. Dawson), The Commander (also known as Der Commander) starred Lewis Collins as Major Jack Colby who leads a group of fearless mercenaries into the green hell of a South Asian jungle in order to protect a data disc full of secrets. Can Major Colby discover who is out to screw him and his hired band of killers as they struggle to survive in this twisting, turning action film from 1988?

Like Code Name: Wild Geese and Commando Leopard, The Commander is also brilliant in that it is packed with plenty of action where loud explosions and heavy duty combat combine with secret agent double crossing and murderous corruption. This film also relied on a very good cast of actors including Lewis Collins as Major Colby, along with other actors who starred in the film such as Lee Van Cleef and Donald Pleasence. Very highly recommended.

The spagetti western but in a more modern age. Storyline is as you would want but a little obvious what is going to happen and which characters are not going to make it. It takes time to get use to the lips and voices being out of sync!

Great film. Collins was underrated as an actor and should have been Bond. Buy all 3 in this superb Italians do Vietnam trilogy.
