I picked up The Coming of Derek (A quirky laugh out loud comedy) because it was cheap and because it was something I'd never read in a million years. Since I've been doing Rebbie Reviews ([...] I've been trying to branch out a bit more.

I absolutely loved it, it is everything it promises to be and the best thing about it for me was the point of view it comes from. Rather than the usual girly jabber it isn't just going to say "all men are worthless, women rock blah, blah". It is centred around Derek, a 30 something with no romantic prospects and throughout the book we see Derek grow and his comedic rendezvous with the opposite sex. I have never heard some of the descriptions in this book and if you don't buy it for anything else, buy it for what happens in the last chapter, I nearly drowned my kindle in coffee!

It's a funny, charming and somewhat dirty book and it really was worth the money. I'm even thinking about buying it in paperback as a present this Christmas. There are a few spelling errors in the book but it's that good that you don't really care. The one that really got me was using "too" instead of "to", that is particularly annoying to me.

A new author to watch and I will definitely be reading more, reviews will always be posted on my blog as well as here.

A surprising and very funny novel. If you are easily offended this probably isn't for you. Very rude right from the start in an extremely british way and utterly hilarious whilst also heartwarming and bittersweet at times. This is a triumphant first novel from the author and I will look forward to seeing whether he maintains the high standard with his next books.

I wasn't quite sure about this in the first couple of chapters but I got really into it! Very sweet and endearing in some parts and laugh out loud funny in others! The twist at the end was good, didn't see that coming. I would recommend!

This is the first book in a long time that I've been unable to finish.

For the most part, it consist of knob gags made by or about one-dimensional, unbelievable characters. If I could describe the book in one word, that word would most probably be 'grotty'; the level of humour within never rises above the sort of puerile stuff that one would expect to find from a fourteen year-old. This isn't offensive, but nor is it amusing; it's childish. Throw poor spelling and grammar into the mix and you're left with a book to avoid.

Perhaps the warning bells should start ringing when you see a novel feeling the need to signpost its status as 'a quirky comedy' in the title. Hopefully I'll know better next time.

Fantastic from start to finish. Took this on holiday with me and was only half way through it but sat one afternoon and did not put it down until finished.

I bought this as it was something different compared to other books out there at the moment and it is extremely close to real life which I enjoyed. Every character I could imagine, as they were not based on the tall, thin and rich and beautiful, it was people that you could relate to and probably actually know a few of them in your own life!

Great author and look forward to many more from them.

This is a load of rubbish, written like a retarded gruesome junky - the expressions and descriptions make you feel sick.
I do not recommend this at all.
In fact I deleted it before I was half way through having thought to myself why am I reading this load of rubbish that makes me feel sick - I don't have to do I? After all it was free.

Something made me want to finish this book, but with every page I was aware of the unlikely dialogue, the forced descriptions, and the general lack of flow. The author's abuse of euphemisms grated on me. I was constantly aware that I was reading a book; not able to slip into the story. The book had not been proof-read as I spotted at least 5 simple spelling mistakes or misuse of a word.

This was not a book I would normally read but I really enjoyed it. The story is very predictable but written with a new twist. Thanks for an interesting book that made me smile all the way to the last page.
